August 29, 2019 Created Screencasts to save customer support time

We invested some time today and yesterday to create screencasts to answer common customer support questions and I think we're going to see a conversion improvement, too. We used iMovie, Blue SnowBall USB mic, and some good 'ole fashion editing skills. Kept it simple and rough so we could just SHIP IT and improve it later.

August 26, 2019 Learned a lesson we should have done on Day 1

We were running all our email through Mailgun, so our main MX records were pointing there and should have just setup Gmail and be done with it. We had to modify (yak shaving!) other things to get this 1 thing to work. What a pain! Do yourself a favor, just setup email correctly in the beginning and just pay for GMail Suite

Are you suggesting using the GMail API for sending/receiving emails?

No, sorry. I should have been more clear. We use MailGun's API to send transactional emails. We were creating "routes" in MailGun for support and all the other email accounts. We could have used MailGun's SMTP, decided against it since we've actually already been through the M&A process a couple times and realized making your SaaS easier to sell means it's actually easier for you to RUN (we don't plan to sell anytime soon, just want to reap the benefits of what a sellable business runs like)

August 19, 2019 Hired a boutique marketing agency to help

Needed help with marketing, SEO, and general strategy. Found a boutique marketing company that helps with SaaS products specifically and has a great track record. The two takeaways that we had to do were more on the metric gathering side and breaking up the website into different domains to track those metrics better, too.

Can you share the name of the agency you're working with? Are they in the Seattle area?

They're not in the Seattle area, they're on the east coast. If you're needing an agency to help with SEO, getting metrics setup, and the sales site running, they did a pretty quick job and they have also been very simple-do-the-hard-work-first minded, which I like -- if you need that I can make an intro

Great, I'll keep that in mind for SEO needs. I misread the post that they also helped with the design.

Oh sorry. Yea, they're terrible with design, find a designer. haha.

January 30, 2016 Ramen Profitability

Being the first in any app store on a big platform is a HUGE help. Early adopters helped hockey stick growth into enough revenue to focus on the product full-time.

Right now still focused on providing good customer support and looking for ways to continue to grow/add more customers.

Taking Jason Fried's (from Basecamp fame) advice to not keeping adding features. Standup Bot does 1 thing and does it well for now
