starter.place
Gumroad for starter repos
Really happy that Carbon approved starter.place.
You will now see a Carbon ad in the list of starters to hopefully help us keep running for a long time.
We also had the first user to complete the Stripe signup process! It works and is ready for more people to list their starters for sale.
What other features should we add to make this useful for those who create starters and those who use them???
You can now request a starter with a set of tools by filtering down to that set of tools and clicking the button to request it at the end of the results. And if you want to make money creating starters, this is a great place to see what people want.

Have added tons of new starters, only top quality and recently updated
Made a cron to update repos that users haven't added
Am an affiliate for 5 top-quality paid starters!
Added a search bar - a couple small bugs with it I'll iron out
Added sorting
Carbon ads got back to me for some more info, hopefully it moves forward, seems exclusive
Made an admin dashboard so I don't have to log into the prod database every time I want to see anything
If you're starting a new project, this is for sure becoming the best place to get started quickly.

ProductHunt not nearly as successful as HackerNews was but still got 250 visitors from it.
Got 450 visitors today. Huge increase from yesterday.
Submitted to a couple more directories.
Working with creators of starters to continue getting listings.

Fixed up Stripe edge cases—still waiting for someone to list a paid repo
Improved pagination to show full number of pages
Got another affiliate repo listed
Dropped to 150 visitors today, but expected for the weekend
Developing a new feature where you can request a specific starter and others can make it and sell it
Going to launch on producthunt and betalist and so on: I think weekend is a good time for this project in particular because indie hackers work most on the weekend, right?
Edit: Launched on Product Hunt! If you've tried starter.place, would love some feedback on it there https://www.producthunt.com/products/starter-place/reviews/new

The app is pretty cool! Some of my thoughts while using the app
- I absolutely love the concept, and the project is definitely functionable!
Absolutely love the concept, I'm saving starter place for when there are more repo available. For now, I can't really find anything that I need. Also love the idea of listing our own repo as a side hustle!
- I would love for the visit button to be flushed right!
While using the app, the first thing that I wanted to do is to visit the Github repo, took me a while before I find the "Visit" button which brings me there. I suppose this is because all the main content is flushed left, while the "Visit" button is on the right.
- The filters are slow
While trying to filter for relevant tools, there's a noticeable delay which sort of disrupts the experience. I suppose not exactly a deal breaker at the early stage.

Thank you so much for all the feedback!

Could you explain this a little more? I think it is flushed right, but can't post a screenshot on IH.
-
Yes! completely. I just pushed an update that should fix this. The results still take a second to return, but I'd have to implement some caching to get that final performance boost, which isn't in my immediate plans.

Ah sorry. I meant I would like the visit button to be flushed left, along with the other content.
As the visit button was flushed right, I missed out on it initially.
I probably missed out on the visit button because I'm using a wide screen monitor.

Oh ok I understand now! I feel like I need to redesign that whole section and the button will fall into place. Let me think about it and feel free to shoot me any more suggestions!

Fixed README rendering so no more mistaken characters (this also let me remove two giant packages for increased performance)
Supported a new way to link starters not hosted on GitHub via affiliate link
Got 5 responses from starter creators I reached out to
1 listed via the new option
1 listed their free repo, we're talking about their paid ones
3 I'm still discussing if it can work with
250 visitors, the dropoff is real. Hacker News is still a big source two days later surprisingly
EdgeDB tweeted us https://twitter.com/edgedatabase/status/1628833822929289220?s=20
Going to try to cater to the needs of the remaining sellers to hopefully get them on board before launching on Product Hunt.
Also thinking about branding it more generally than just starter repos, like "sell your repo and reach your audience"

Successes:
748 visitors (not as big a drop as I expected)
9 signups
1 more completed listing: https://www.starter.place/jihchi/vitejs-template-react-rescript
Fixed filtering bugs
Sped up deployment
Things to follow up on:
1 uncompleted listing was due to Stripe not supporting non-India platform accounts taking application fees from India standard connected accounts per https://support.stripe.com/questions/stripe-india-support-for-marketplaces Anyone know a workaround or if there's a payment provider that does support a case like this?
Wants:
Someone else to list a paid starter repo

Starting a new project is so hard because before you actually get to building the idea itself, you have to search for tools that satisfy your needs and figure out how to piece them together. With starter.place, you can find proven starter templates that use the technologies you want and get to building right away.
If you’ve made a starter repo you think would help others, you can immediately reach a wide audience without having to make your own site and do SEO by posting on starter.place. You get to focus on building the starter all while earning from it if you so choose.
starter.place is so helpful to buyers and sellers because buyers are added as view-only collaborators to the repo on GitHub, where they get continuous updates. Buyers can help drive the project by submitting issues and PRs too.
starter.place is the place for free and paid starter repos.
