December 11, 2020 Confetti 🎉 some new insights and restrictions

This was an exciting week! I redesigned the homepage based on a lot of feedback I got from different people from IH and WIP. The main problem people had was that people didn't understand what was going on. What are the percentages; what is a community, and what is the order based on? It is just a listing of projects, right?

One of the more concrete things I did this week, was redesigning the homepage and add a ton of confetti, to show it is about having a party; a winner and added background graphs to show that it is about growth. Not super clear yet, but that's fine...one day at a time :)

I also had to add stricter rules. I introduced a minimum of "50 followers" listing requirement. It doesn't mean you can't add your project; it just means we only 'publish' you once you hit this target. This way, projects with small followings, won't earn all the crowns for days or weeks in a row.

I also added 'page views' to the project pages. I am super excited about this! I will use this metric on the leaderboard, plus some other ideas I am thinking about. More on this when it lands.

"Open Analytics" and "Building in Public" are topics I would like to learn more about and integrate into my project(s) in the future. Super excited about this!

December 6, 2020 Redesign Homepage

After a soft launch of Product Hunt last week, I got a bit depressed. I thought I nailed it this time and couldn't understand why people didn't like it that much. This is why I decided to join IndieHackers and WIP. The feedback has been amazing and I feel I am part of something bigger and need to give back.

What do you mean that people "didn't like it"? There were 170+ upvotes and all favorable reviews. It was a good reception. If this were on a weekend, you would be either the 2nd or 3rd product of the day.

PH favors certain kinds of product, like info products (assets, classes, templates, pearls of wisdom) and SaaS made for makers. Sure there are some rare exceptions, like Robinhood, but they are rare. When researching my current competitors, Culture Amp and Peakon, I was surprised to see how few upvotes they managed during their launches. There are million-dollar companies now; it gave me a lot of hope.

I'm planning to launch on PH tomorrow. My product is a B2B SaaS so I would be overjoyed if I manage to reach your numbers! 😉

True, it had some upvotes and I think I got 20 after the launch. I had high hopes since this was a product made for the PH audience. I was below the fold most of the day and lots of votes came from accounts that had zero weight..probably bots. I just had a nasty feeling after it and probably looking outside instead of at my own flaws and the product. After I had some feedback from IH and other platforms, I can see that the product wasn't good enough yet. Maybe, I should have spent more time on polish and communication. Things I am fixing now and can totally see it could have changed my success on PH. Always learning :)

Good luck with your launch tomorrow! I will have a look tomorrow. Is it Pluckd? Thanks for listing on StartupCrowns ;) Will definitely be in touch with you after the launch and once you earned some crowns on SC.

Welcome to the community! I'm still pretty new, but happy to welcome you. If it weren't for IH, I never would have started my most recent business (http://joinpressto.com)

November 26, 2020 We went live today!

Today was the big day. We went live and launched on Product Hunt. Since our product has a similar audience, I expected that people would like it a lot and we would get a ton of upvotes. We aren't doing that bad, tho. But apparently, it isn't that simple :) Before launching, I should have done my research and maybe prepared the launch a bit better or launch somewhere else. Good food for thought for our own platform, since we are not focussed on launching, but more on long term community growth.
