August 16, 2026 How I Built a Chrome Extension to Analyze Viral Social Content (Statly)

As a developer and creator, figuring out what actually drives engagement on social platforms like Instagram, TikTok, and X usually requires hours of manual digging or expensive analytics tools.

To solve this, I built Statly, a Chrome extension that turns any Instagram, TikTok, or X account into a ranked report of what’s actually working.

Why I Built It

Most social analytics tools give you high-level vanity metrics, but they don't break down content performance at a granular level. I wanted a lightweight tool that lets you:

  • Audit growth: Instantly see top-performing posts for any profile.

  • Study competitors: Analyze viral formats before everyone else catches on.

  • Zero friction: Works directly inside your browser without needing credential sharing.

Tech Stack

  • Frontend: Vanilla JS / Chrome Extension API (V3)

  • Backend: Node.js

  • Payments: Lemon Squeezy

July 22, 2026 Update: Statly now works on TikTok and X, not just Instagram

What Statly is: a Chrome extension that turns any public Instagram, TikTok, or X account into a full analytics dashboard, with no login required. It runs in the browser and reads publicly visible data, so it works on any public profile, competitors included.

What's new in this update:

  • Three platforms. Statly launched Instagram-only. It now supports Instagram, TikTok, and X, with the same depth of analysis on each.

  • Cloud sync (Pro). Watchlists, niches, and saved posts sync across devices.

  • Team viewer seats (Pro). Share read-only access to your data with teammates, revocable anytime.

  • API. Pull the same metrics into your own tools programmatically.

What makes it different:

  • It analyzes accounts you do not own. Most tools only report on connected accounts, so competitor performance is invisible to them. Statly reads public data through the browser, so any public profile is fair game.

  • Outlier Score measures how far a post beat its own account's median, instead of raw views. That surfaces real breakouts at any account size, not just big accounts looking big.

  • 5 dashboards: Audit, Compare, Merge, Watchlist, and Trend Finder.

Pricing: Free tier with 3 scans a day. Pro at €39/mo for unlimited scans, all dashboards, cloud sync, viewer seats, and API access.

Feedback welcome, especially on the new TikTok and X support.

I'm curious what evidence convinced you that expanding to TikTok and X would create more value than going deeper on Instagram first.

Was it existing users asking for cross-platform analysis, or did you see a broader workflow emerging?

July 17, 2026 📊 Big things coming to Statly

Right now Statly gives you the deepest Reels analytics on Instagram, no sign-up, no Meta connection, just install and scan.

Soon, that same engine is coming to TikTok and X (Twitter) analytics too. Same idea: audit any public profile, compare creators, track a watchlist, and spot what's trending, without ever leaving the app.

One extension, every platform that matters for creators and marketers.

Stay tuned.
