Stoic.today is live!
I'd been going back and forth about when to launch, but no time like the present. I'm a little embarrassed by it visually but apparently, that means I didn't wait too long to ship it.
Quotes are generated using GPT3 & added real stoic quotes manually.
🤔 Some of the things I've learned
- enough vue to layout a simple application (should make next project easier)
- there are many different ways to manage SSL certs, and different hosting providers handle things differently.
- how to use flex-box, it'd been on my todo for years. (https://mastery.games/flexboxzombies/ is awesome & fun)
- when you tell people you made something they're a lot more enthusiastic than I expected (a lot of nerves about putting myself out there)
- It's easy to get banned from a subreddit even if your not selling something /r/quotes whoops
Look forward to building and launching many more projects/products.
About
I've an interest in Stoicism & GPT3. I'd tried writing my own stoic quotes or rewriting famous quotes and it's hard. GPT3 seemed like it could help solve this issue. You can decide if it worked

Very cool!
congrats!
Way to go, this is really nice to see!
Nice. It was tough. Got 4 correct out of 10.
I heard GPT3 is expensive to run. How much (time & money) did it take to make it? (Excluding learning/writing code)
That's really positive on quality of the quotes :)
I pre-generated these quotes so I'm not sure the ongoing cost it would take to maintain. I've been using the free tokens so far open-ai have been very generous in those once I got access.
Next project this will be a concern so I might write more about it at that time.
Thanks! Found open-ai’s blog post https://openai.com/blog/gpt-3-apps/
Great job! It's actually more difficult than I expected to guess the correct answer. I got 8/10 correct.
Design-wise I think it would help a lot if you put the content into some container with max-width - on the large screen, the quotes are stretched to full width and difficult to read. Also putting some padding around the navigation would as well.
Did you have to apply to get access to the API?
Thanks appreciate the feedback, my ui-fu isn't strong.
I've pushed changes, let me know if that looks better.
Yeah I applied for access for the API, had to wait a month or two but got access.
By the way I checked out your http://cat-ico.github.io/ that's really slick, you've a great eye.
Great, looks much better.
Thanks man, appreciate it!
