Build better habits to live the life you want.

August 1, 2020 Started documenting what I'm working on

I've spent the last few months only working on the product. Trying to make it the most effective piece of software for building better habits and living the life you want.

I know I should have been marketing, but I stand by my decision that it's a waste of time to market something that won't keep users coming back.

But now it's time to figure this whole marketing thing out.

Inspired by the almighty Peter Levels, who has been tweeting designs, designs and updates for his new remote working application. I've started documenting what features I'm working on for Streakoid at the moment. What problems I'm facing, why I've made certain design decisions and stuff that's going wrong.

This isn't really a play to get more users for Streakoid. It's more for the Indie hacker that is discouraged when all they see are milestone updates for $5000 MRR updates each day.

It's a long slow grind continuous improvement. So hopefully these tweets will become more valuable as Streakoid progresses, giving a reality of how much work it takes to do anything.

It could be a waste of time, but at the very least it will be nice for me to look back on.

Here's an example thread: https://twitter.com/thereecekidd/status/1289481887191166977

But I'd like to get creative with the clips and process for LinkedIn. As I don't see as much live building on LinkedIn.

July 10, 2020 First positive experience on reddit (459 Upvotes)

I've used Reddit on and off for the last nine months building Streakoid.

It's been a mixed bag. With lots of hate, some positive users and an occasional ban. πŸ˜‚

But Yesterday I had the first breakthrough with a post on the Habits and routines of Usain Bolt. πŸ‘‘

I've struggled with marketing Streakoid. Because I underestimated the challenge of marketing and I decided to focus on the product.

I'm a strong believer without a solid product marketing is useless. (I disagree with all growth hacks and publicity stunts prior to product market fit)

I believe Yesterday's reddit post went well because:

  1. I was focused on delivering as much value to the reddit community as I could.
  2. I broke the text up into easy to read sections.
  3. Use relevant emojios as dividers.
  4. Nailed the content for the correct audience.
  5. Made sure to engage with community.

Moving forward I will continue to try and replicate this.

My main challenge is being consistent working and sharing the content now that Streakoid is ready for more users as it has proven to help build better habits and routines.

I've created a couple of daily habits (streaks) on Streakoid to make sure that I'm consistently working on content and marketing.

  • Post on indiehackers

I will continue to try and be consistent with the habits above and will let you know how the results go.

July 5, 2020 Youtube video: Lessons learnt from your first run

As part of the marketing for Streakoid I'm trying to create some funny videos related to Habit building.

I learnt that creating funny short content to attract new users is tough.

Particularly the storytelling aspect of the video.

I've also struggled with knowing what type of video content to create. I believe this will become clearer over time.

For now I'm just embracing the bad quality. As I know like everything it will improve over time.

Any thoughts or feedback would be much appreciated πŸ₯‡

About

Streakoid exists because I was fed up trying to build better habits on my own, struggling to find people to be accountable to and wanted a solution that made being consistent suck less.
