AI Fashion Photo Studio

June 3, 2026 I spent 4 months building an AI fashion studio. Here's what happened on launch day.

I'm going to be honest — I almost didn't post this.

Not because I'm not proud of what I built. But because I'm from Assam, a small state in Northeast India, and the startup world feels very far away from here. No VCs. No accelerators. No startup culture. Just me, my laptop, and a problem I couldn't stop thinking about.

The problem was simple.

My friend runs a small clothing boutique. She's good at what she does — great taste, loyal customers, growing Instagram following. But every single month she was spending ₹30,000 (~$360) on photoshoots. Photographer fees. Model fees. Studio rental. Editing.

₹30,000. Every month. Just for Instagram content.

She's not a big brand. She's a small business owner trying to survive. And she had no choice — stop posting, lose customers. Keep posting, go broke slowly.

This isn't just an Indian problem either. I've spoken to creators in the US, UK and Southeast Asia paying $400-$800 per shoot for the exact same reason. The photography industry is expensive everywhere. Most small creators simply can't afford consistent professional photos wherever they live.

I thought AI should be able to fix this.

So I started building.

4 months later:

StudioSelf is live at studioself.app

You upload your face photo and your clothing. Pick a style from 100+ templates — Dark Academia, Y2K Neon Nights, Cottagecore, Street Style, whatever fits your brand. And you get up to 100 professional AI-generated fashion photos of yourself in minutes.

India: ₹1,249/month (~$15)

International: $14.99/month

That's it. 95% cheaper than a real photoshoot. Anywhere in the world.

For international users who don't want a subscription — one-time point top-ups are available too. $8.99 for 50 points, $21.99 for 150 points, $49.99 for 400 points. No commitment needed.

The tech stack if anyone's curious:

Vanilla HTML/CSS/JS on the frontend. No framework. I made this choice deliberately — I'm a solo founder and zero build tooling means zero maintenance headaches at 2AM.

Firebase Cloud Functions on the backend. Google Gemini 2.0 Flash for image generation. Razorpay for Indian payments. Working on Stripe for international users. Firebase everything else — auth, storage, hosting, database.

The hardest technical problem was face consistency. Each generation is a separate API call. Without careful prompt engineering you get 100 different looking people wearing similar clothes. I call it identity drift and I spent 3 weeks just on this one problem. Still not perfect — about 85% consistency right now. It's the thing I'm most focused on improving.

Launch day:

I deployed at 11PM. Told some friends. Posted in a few WhatsApp groups.

Got a lot of "wow cool bro."

Zero signups.

I went to sleep feeling like an idiot.

What I've learned so far:

I spent 4 months building and zero months thinking about distribution. That was my biggest mistake and I'm paying for it now. The product works. Getting people to it is the real job.

The problem is global but my marketing has been India-only so far. I'm starting to fix that. The same pain exists for a boutique owner in Manchester or a content creator in Manila. ₹30,000 or $360 or £280 — it's all the same problem in different currencies.

Talking to users is more valuable than any feature. Every conversation tells me something the dashboard never will.

Small numbers feel huge when they're real. 47 users sounds like nothing. But 47 real people tried something I made alone in my room. That's not nothing.

Building from a small city in India is lonely. There's nobody to grab coffee with and talk startup. No community around you. You're just you and your screen and your doubt. This community is the closest thing I've found to that coffee conversation.

Where I am now:

Still early. Still figuring out distribution. Still improving face consistency. Still learning how to talk to customers. Still figuring out international payments.

But the problem is real. The product works. And one person's already paying for it.

That's enough to keep going.

If you've built something and you're in the "silent after launch" phase right now — I see you. It's the hardest part. Keep going anyway.

Happy to answer anything — about the tech, the build process, the Gemini API quirks, the Razorpay setup, international expansion, anything.

And if you're a fashion creator or boutique owner reading this — wherever you are in the world — come try it. First few images are free. No credit card needed.
