April 13, 2026 StudyLoby — study together, from anywhere

A focused place for students to find study rooms, join live sessions (video or chat-only), and stay in touch with DMs and community—without the noise of general social apps.

What I’m building

StudyLoby is a student desk: one shell where you browse study rooms by university/subject, join sessions, use video or chat depending on the room, and keep private conversations in an inbox. The idea is to reduce friction between “I should study” and “I’m actually in a room with other people,” whether they’re classmates or strangers on the same grind.

I’m iterating in public on the core loop: discover → join → focus together → come back.

The problem

Studying alone is the default for many students, especially online or across time zones. Generic calls (Zoom, etc.) work but don’t optimize for low-friction drop-in study, room discovery, or a student-specific vibe. Big social apps are distracting. What’s missing for a lot of people is something purpose-built: rooms that feel like a library or a quiet café, plus light social layers (community, DMs) that don’t hijack attention.

Who it’s for

  • Students who want company while studying (body doubling / accountability).

  • People who like scheduled or ad-hoc focus blocks with others.

  • Anyone who wants chat-only study space sometimes and video other times.

  • Students who care about context (institute, subject, room type) when choosing where to sit “virtually.”

Why use StudyLoby (vs “just a Meet link” or a Discord)

  • Built around study, not meetings or infinite channels.

  • Room catalog with filters (e.g. university, department, subject, room style) so you find the right room, not a random link.

  • Video and chat-only room kinds so people can choose their comfort level.

  • Inbox for DMs so coordination and follow-ups stay out of the main study UI but don’t disappear into another app.

  • Desk-style navigation (overview, rooms, community, inbox, account) so the product feels like a workspace, not a feed-first social network.

  • Designed for repeat visits: recent rooms, favorites, unread counts, and flows that assume you’ll come back tomorrow.

  • Femaly only rooms for girl safety

What you can do today (feature snapshot)

  • Browse and join study rooms with filters and sorting.

  • Live study sessions — video rooms (e.g. LiveKit) and chat-only rooms.

  • In-room chat, reactions, replies, edits where supported.

  • Host tools / room policy (e.g. Pomodoro-style focus in study rooms—adjust to your real feature set).

  • Direct messages with threads, read state, and unread counts on the desk sidebar.

  • Community surface (feed / buddies / board—word this to match your actual nav).

  • Account & preferences (profile, language, notifications, PWA-friendly usage if applicable).

  • BN + EN (or whatever locales you ship) for broader reach.

Why I’m sharing on Indie Hackers

I’m building this as a real product for students, not a demo. IH is where I want to:

  • Get feedback from other builders and from students who hate procrastination as much as I do.

  • Stay accountable and document decisions (positioning, what to cut, what to double down on).

  • Eventually talk distribution (universities, creators, student orgs) with people who’ve done similar B2C or edu-adjacent products.

What I’d love from the community

  • Would you use this if your school had it? What’s the one feature that would make you open it weekly?

  • Pain points with Zoom/Discord/Notion for “study with strangers or classmates.”

  • Monetization gut-check (freemium rooms, campus pilots, tips—only if you want that discussion).

April 13, 2026 StudyLoby — study rooms + inbox for students who focus better together

I’m building a student desk to discover study rooms, join live video or chat sessions, and keep DMs separate from the noise of big social apps. Looking for feedback from students and founders who’ve shipped community or edtech products.

About

I’m building StudyLoby because remote study still breaks in the same predictable way: people want to focus with others, but the “stack” is a mess—random video links, scattered chats, and no simple place to find a room.
