August 27, 2026 I shipped SubCrisp in my spare time. Here's why, and what I'm learning with a tiny user base

It started with a bank statement. I opened it one evening and genuinely couldn't name what I was paying each month across streaming, software and AI tools that all quietly auto-renew. So I built a small tracker for myself to answer that one question.

Then it became a real product. It worked better than the subscription trackers I'd tried, so I decided to ship it properly, and last week it went live on the Play Store.

The model: the core tracker is genuinely free, no ads and no bank access. There's an optional Pro that unlocks a savings simulator and deeper insights, honestly there for people who find it useful and want to support development. I'd rather have a product people actually use than one that nags them to pay.

The build: solo, in my spare time on top of a day job. One codebase (React + TypeScript, Supabase, Capacitor) that runs as both the web app and a native Android app, which is the only way a one-person project stays maintainable.

The honest part: I just launched with a tiny, tiny user base. The battle isn't downloads, it's churn. A subscription tracker is the kind of app people install, log everything once, and never open again, which makes the "audit" a trap and not a habit. That's the problem I'm most focused on solving, and I'd genuinely love ideas.

If you juggle streaming, software and AI tools, it's free to try and it might surprise you what's leaving your account each month.

Happy to answer questions or talk shop with anyone else building solo. The churn question is open, I'd love your take.

I couldn't name what I paid each month in auto-renewals, so I built this for myself. It beat the trackers I'd tried, so I shipped it. Core is free; Pro funds development. Built solo, spare time.
