March 17, 2019 MVP

I try to build and ship a MVP with a basic version and a nice landing page, with all the common features (register, login, user validation) and some features (create your subscriptions, create new subscriptions not in the list, view some statics, etc.)

I fill up a list of popular/common subscriptions tools like Spotify, Netflix, Airtable, Buffer, Hotjar, NomadList, AWS, Netlify, Laracast, Udemy, Stripe, ProductHunt, Amazon Prime, Itunes, RevolutApp, NotionApp, Confluence, Github, Gitlab, Zappier, Zoom, Trello, Slack, Twilio and a loooong etc (up to 100+ tools) in order to make it easier to fill the information for the user.

I deployed the product in a DigitalOcean droplet, bought the domain, configured the email server and try to launch in under 10 days, then iterate and add more features while the product is in the Beta process and acquiring users.

March 17, 2019 Talk with others

Talking with my girlfriend I was complaining that one subscription I had auto-renewed without noticing and I have to pay the whole year.

She suggested me that I had to have some reminder or tool to keep it organizated and never happens before. So, I did it.

March 17, 2019 Scratching my own itch

As a maker & developer, I have multiple recurring payment subscriptions tools: from design apps, domains, hosting, emails services, SAAS tools like NotionHQ, DigitalOcean, Namecheap, etc.

In addition of this, I had others subscription services like AmazonPro, Spotify, Netflix, etc. (some of them in trial period), but happens that you don't remind to unsubscribe and they charge you.

For all this reasons I want to build a simple yet effective subscription management tool, to keep organized in different domains (personal, per product, etc.) every recurring payment I have and be able to analyze it and unsubscribe before they auto-renew (I this is the case).

Had exactly the same idea about a year ago, but scraped it. Good luck with it ;)

Sad to hear that, what your motivations to quit your idea or any suggestion? Thanks!

I just had it as an idea in my potential-future-things-to-create TODO list. Decided it doesn't worth it at that time.

A competitor I've seen is www.trackmysubs.com - they did a lifetime deal about a year or so ago

Wow yes, that will be one competitor with similar features.. I have to work hard to improve it, give more added value or to change the target user (business & makers). Good to know about it!

I would love something like this, but I'm not sure it is even feasible technically speaking. Most services that I know of don't have hooks to programmatically unsubscribe users, so you'd need to store their credentials (bad).

Hey Matt, thanks for your comment. Yes, that's true, for the moment (beta) I will keep it simple and try to send reminders to manually cancel subscriptions (with guiding steps). The true is that the majorly of the services don't accept easy unsubscribe / webhooks... Then maybe I consider to store the credentials in a secure way.

Great! And I want to manage my credit card deals visually.

Thanks! Yes, I'm working about it! My (future) plan is to be able to create 'credit cards' to visually know witch of them you used to pay every subscription & be able to split payments between different cards, pay on certain day of the month, limit monthly expending, etc.

Genius! I'm so excited to use that soon :)

Would be free, one-time or subscription?
Anyway you should check the competition, I remember seeing an app doing something similar, but I cannot remember the name.
It had a green logo if I'm not mistaken.

Hello! For the moment my plan is monthly/yearly subscription (1 month free beta) but I can consider this.

I did some research and I didn't find something similar, a lot of tools let you manage your client subscriptions, but not your own tools/services. I only found one similar tool, but it's a mobile app only. But I will keep researching..

I'm not clear on where the value-add comes from.

    1. I do see value from being reminded to unsubscribe before some subscriptions auto-renew. But that is easy to do with a reminder on your cell phone, or something like Google Calendar.
    2. For something that you do intend to continue paying for, I don't see the value in having some sort of dashboard, eg. for NotionHQ, DigitalOcean and Namecheap. Maybe there's value in the sense of seeing where you spend your money? But in that case, a better fit seems like it'd be a more general budgeting tool.

Thinking about this, I just thought of an alternative idea that is similar. Maybe you could build a Chrome extension or something that automatically sets a reminder for you, or at least prompts you to set one. Similar to how the LastPass extension prompts you to save your username+password when you sign up with a new site.

Hi Adam! I know that for the moment the product is simple, but I will keep adding features to make it more interesting and add more value to it, but:

1 - I think that it's easier & better to centralize in a dedicated tool, where you can easily configure when the reminder is set (1 week before, 15 days before, 1 month before, etc.) and the service will automatically reset it. Also you can visually see all your subscriptions in one list.

2 - With this tool you will be able to see your average spending, split by categories, see charts about how you spend your money, know what others are using (similar tools) or discover promo codes. Also you can split your subscriptions by "domains" (like subscriptions by different products or different departments).

Thanks for that new idea, I will think about it!
