Starting self-hosted and managed deployment for Mailintel. License for self-hosted version is at $1k/year for now. Reached out to a couple of existing users asking if they'd rather self-host or want a managed deployment. Also created a 2 minute video walkthrough to show product demo

November 28, 2019 Suet -> Mailintel

New site launched! Here was the mail sent to existing users yesterday:

--
At Suet, we believe emails sent to users are an important piece of every product. They give visibility into users, their engagement and how they interact with the product. Over the last couple of years, Suet has provided this analytics and reporting dashboard for transactional emails from Mailgun and Amazon SES. Now, it’s time to do more.

We are adding business intelligence tools to Suet. Now you can segment users, mails and activity feed based on parameters like email, subject, interaction date, action (delivery, opens, clicks, fails), and many more. This makes it easy to filter users and mails to see interaction and performance.

To reflect the changes, we are also rebranding as Mailintel. The current Suet domain (suet.co) and existing app will continue to work for a couple of weeks then will redirect to the new domain and app at mailintel.io. Our twitter account is now http://twitter.com/mailintel (please follow if you are not doing so already).

We can’t wait to see you use the new platform and give us feedback. Please keep them coming at hello@mailintel.io

November 24, 2019 Rebranding Suet

For a while now, I have been thinking about the next steps for Suet. Mid year, I discontinued work on the open source version (https://www.indiehackers.com/product/suet/v4--LjgeFX7KTq_lrPTAV59) in a bid to focus on the managed version. This dragged a little after that but here is that next step: adding "business" intelligence tools to easily segment users and mails based on parameters like email, subject, interaction date, action (delivery, opens, clicks, fails), and many more. And to reflect the change, a rebranding is in works.

This has been a big work. The process involved a redesign and redevelopment, change of social media handle and logos and setup of new domain name and servers. I will find time to write a detailed post about all this. I have prepared a draft email to communicate the change to users and that should go out tomorrow maybe. I am still thinking of the best way to announce it publicly and generate some buzz. PH? Reddit? HN?

I'm interestingly anxious about this.

July 27, 2019 Update email to users
  1. A new page for bounced emails

There is now a dedicated page to view bounced emails and the reason for bounce. This is available via Users → Bounced emails (suet.co/users/bounced)

  1. Mail body for SES

If you use SES, you can now see what the emails sent to users look like. Simply Bcc (or Cc) mails@ses.suet.co in your outgoing transactional mails and you will be able to see the email content in your Suet dashboard via Mail → View mail

  1. Cheaper pricing

There has been slight adjustment to pricing, and no, not an increase. Events less than 1k/month won't be charged and you can now even do more for less. See pricing for more.

July 12, 2019 v4

"There is an ongoing complete rewrite of Suet and data migration to new providers for performance and reliability reasons. In the following weeks, you will notice changes here and there; please don’t fret.

However, unfortunately, no further work will continue on the open source version. It’s been increasingly difficult to keep the open source version up with the managed version. Instead of the divided attention between both versions, starting today, all focus will be on the managed version. The open source version has now been put in readonly mode. If you need to setup your own version of Suet or build anything off SES/Mailgun analytics, it’s still a good place to start.

Paid plans are also going to change. This will not affect already paying customers for the next 3 months. There will no longer be free accounts and free trial will be limited to one week or first 5k events (whichever comes first).

If you have questions or feedback, I am happy to chat. Say hi: hello@suet.co

Regards."

Mail I sent to current users of the platform.

I am trying to add a mail inbox to zohunt.com. Would need your advice on the best way to achieve this. If you can give me 15-30mins of your time, it will mean a lot

November 11, 2017 Business model

To make money, I added payments to the managed version at suet.co. Charge will be based on events consumed for the month. This has been a model for products like Ghost, Discuss and Discourse. I also added a support license fee to the open source version.

June 10, 2017 First Commit

I was working on a newsletter project (http://obem.be/2017/05/30/musings-thefeed-press.html) and wanted to track email interaction. Mailgun didn't offer what I really wanted so I built my own dashboard using Mailgun events.

I made it open source and ran a version at suet.co.

About

Amazon SES doesn't have a good analytics dashboard. Mailgun has a pretty good dashboard that can use some enhancements.
