SuomiSpeak
Finnish Language Learning App for Serious Learners
Finnish is one of the hardest languages in the world, and almost no one builds apps specifically for it. Duolingo has Finnish but it barely scratches the surface no grammar cases, no structured path, no real depth. Some other company made some app for it but they are not fun to use.
So I built SuomiSpeak
What it is:
4500+ words from A1 to C1
Finnish grammar cases covered in depth (partitive, genitive, locative cases etc.)
Hands-free practice mode for commuting and cooking
Listening, speaking, writing and vocabulary exercises
iOS and Android
First month results:
500+ users signed up
34 active paying subscribers
Launched on Product Hunt today
I built this completely solo, bootstrapped, no funding. The hardest part wasn't the code - it was learning enough about Finnish grammar to build the content correctly.
Still a long way to go but the early traction is encouraging. Happy to answer any questions about the build or the language learning niche.
About
Finnish is one of the hardest languages with almost no good dedicated apps. I built SuomiSpeak to give serious learners a structured path — grammar cases, real vocabulary, and hands-free practice.

Would love to collaborate.
34 paying subscribers in month one bootstrapped and solo is a real number especially in a niche this specific. The interesting thing about Finnish is that the people who actually need to learn it have a concrete reason — moving to Finland, citizenship, work — which means your users are more motivated than the average language app user who downloaded Duolingo and forgot about it in a week. That motivation gap is probably why your conversion from 500 signups to paying is already healthier than most language apps see early on. The grammar cases depth is the right bet because that is exactly where serious learners hit the wall with Duolingo and go looking for something else. Curious what your acquisition looked like in month one — did most of those 500 come from Product Hunt or were there other channels driving it before today?
