SupaNexTail
A Next.js boilerplate with Supabase, TailwindCSS and Stripe
Creating a website can be complicated, maintaining a website is even more so!
Why switch from a paid to a free model? I think SupaNexTail was interesting a few months ago, but more and more boilerplate, more complete, more professional, are available. I don't have time to maintain it properly anymore and I prefer to focus on other projects.
But I think it can still be useful for some people, that's why I prefer to open the repo to everyone!
I've been wanting to integrate this into SupaNexTail for a long time but it's done, a blog system is now provided to users!
I see more and more SaaS keep a blog, it allows to stay close to its customers but also to improve its SEO.
The system is very simple, it is a blog without CMS, working with markdown and MDX. This allows a great ease of writing, everything is very fast because generated during the build, and with the mdx support you can easily use React components within the markdown files.
I did 3 sales in december for http://supanextail.dev. It was the best month I've had in my indiehacker life 🚀
I had several sites running with affiliate links, and I made at most 200€/M.
Selling your own product, at a higher price, allows you to reach your goals with few customers 💰
The idea for me is to keep that in mind for 2022!

This is what we called a "boilerplate". It's a git repository ready to use with all the features already done to kickstart your SaaS. Auth system / Database / payment system etc, everything is setup and you just have to replace the API keys with your own.
It's for developers who don't want to reinvent the wheel everytime they start a new project. But it's not for everyone, the stack will not change (NextJS, Supabase, Stripe, TailwindCSS).
I mainly did it for me at first but other developers can save a few days of work!

4 months of work and SupaNexTail is now available!
It was a really interesting experience and in the end I am very satisfied to have done this, even if I don't make any sales!
I started SupaNexTail for my personal use first, and it is a great help to start a project quickly. I've often left out ideas because the basic setup was very expensive.
SupaNexTail makes this first step effortless.
I can't wait to use it in practice and start other projects!
I hesitated for a long time, I even started the work 2 weeks ago before abandoning it, but this time it's the good one, I convert my Javascript project into Typescript.
For SupaNexTail, it's the right thing to do, but as a solo webdev, having only worked on small projects, it's very hard to see the use of Typescript.
So I hope to change my mind along the way of the migration 😊
And you, have you taken the plunge? How was the transition to Typescript?

Yes, definitely worth it! For all the benefits of TypeScript, the thing that really convinced me is autocomplete and catching type errors. Makes me a more efficient and confident programmer, especially with large refactors (which I may put off otherwise), long-running and growing projects, and the future of having more than one person.
I like video learning, so I did take a couple courses to jump start my knowledge—helps with stuff like generics. It also takes a while before it’s familiar, and it took a month before I could code as fast in TypeScript as in JavaScript. The more you do it, the more you like it.
Mileage varies across frameworks though. I’m using ReactJS/NextJS and NestJS/NodeJS. I tried TypeScript with Vue, and the surprising lack of support made it more trouble than it’s worth.

Yes the autocomplete is really powerfull. I have the same stack (Nextjs/Node) and it's not that difficult for simple code.

I'm in the process of converting Untold RPG (built with React Native) to TS. I was just like you, but I consider myself a convertee now. You need to accept it, including things you may not like in the beginning. In time, you'll see the benefits. Main benefits (as a solo developer): big refractors become easier and future you don't know the codebase as well as you do right now. Being able to see what all variables actually are and consists of without having to theck the code is so worth it.

You don't need to force yourself to it.
If you'll start doing or working on complex projects
the need will become evident and change will be a breeze.There's no need to use it on smaller projects.
Basically, it's better to not use TS for them. -

It is super useful even when working alone, it will save you A LOT of time in the wrong run, by catching typos, common errors while you type and saving you hours of debugging. Not only this, but also makes things really easy to maintain or refactor, you can rename a field/variable without being afraid that you forgot to change it somewhere that would make your project crash at run time.
Still polishing the release for SupaNexTail. The beta brought several good ideas and I want to incorporate them before the launch!
Among these improvements, the design of the site has greatly changed and is a bit more modern than the old version.
Do not hesitate to give me your opinion!
I think I'm almost there!
The main idea was to allow everyone to create the basis of a SaaS in less than half a day.
After weeks of work I think the mission is accomplished for the chosen tech stack (Next.js / Supabase / TailwindCSS / Stripe).
I'm still looking for one or two beta testers, if you are interested, send me a message! I think I'll launch SupaNexTail before the end of August. Beta testers will have lifetime access to the repo.
SupaNexTail is making good progress!
Since the launch of the homepage, here are the functional elements:
- Auth and user management with Supabase
- 7 fully designed pages (Landing page / Contact / Pricing / Dashboard / Login / Privacy Policy / Terms of service)
- Dark theme
I'm working on the Stripe integration and once this is done, SupaNexTail will officially go to version 1.0!
Well, maybe not the ultimate, but my ideal boilerplate!
I was tired of doing the same thing over and over when I started a new project and I wanted to build my own boilerplate a long time ago.
So I created SupaNexTail!
Authentication system, payment system, database, css, I don't want to forget anything for what I consider to be the foundation of a successful project.
So I chose several technologies on which I base my projects for some time now.
Supabase for the authentication system and the database. It is for me an evidence for some months and they improve day by day.
Stripe for the payment system, attached to Supabase, and you have a perfect subscription system for your Saas.
TailwindCSS with DaisyUI for the interface design. I haven't found a better solution yet and it's what saves me the most time.
All this will be configured and you can easily plug it in by changing some environment variables.
As a bonus, the site is fully responsive, has a dark theme, a functional dashboard for the user, and 5 pages already designed (landing page, contact, dashboard, pricing, login).
I started SupaNexTail at the beginning of the week so I still have some work to do on it, but I hope to sell it quickly!
I have a question for the IH community, how much would you be willing to buy a template like this? I was thinking about 50€ but considering the price of a simple template without backend management, I wonder if it wouldn't be worth more...

4-5 paying customers, but it was mostly at beginning!
