March 7, 2023 Survais is now Free

I haven't made any updates to the current live version of Survais (www.survais.com) in a long time. I've been rewriting it in newer tech stacks, migrating etc. but it might be time to call it quits with what is currently live.

So I've made the current iteration of Survais free to use for all.

I've upgraded all existing users to the power plan, and new users who sign up will also get the same treatment.

Hey! Why did u decided to stop working on it?

    1. 1

Hey, so the current live version is quite dated and is due a big upgrade. It doesn't actually have many users so my thinking is that, if more people start using it now that it's free, I would be more inclined to spend more time working on an upgrade.

Survais doesn't cost me much to keep alive in it's current state, so I'm happy to just make it free as it currently is.

All in all, I am just tinkering with different projects right now and find them to be more interesting.

April 1, 2019 March 2019 Update

This update was taken directly from the Survais blog, over at:

https://blog.survais.com/survais-march-2019-update

Within March, we've tidied up a couple of things and have a new feature coming down the lines too πŸ™Œ

  • Added gradient style header backgrounds
  • Added a new 'All Slides' view ➑ This displays all slides in one place for ease of navigation between them
  • Added a new colour picker which makes it much easier to select custom colours 😍
  • Added some embed examples
  • Updated the Embed slide to be called Social slide (just makes more sense)
  • Bugfixed some mobile stuff
  • Bugfixed an issue with the Survai flashing twice on page load

We're working on a page style Survai, and we've released it into Beta in March. This will allow you to generate a link to a Survai that can be shared wherever you wish πŸŽ‰

We also hope to release our Social Slide, and perhaps even our page style Survai from beta in April.

Our focus for April is to give some much needed TLC to our UI inside and outside the application itself. With special consideration to mobile users πŸ“± Stay tuned.

February 4, 2019 Launch (3rd Times a Charm)

It's been almost a year but a lot has happened. Three launches are better than two anyhow.

We've recently finished a complete rewrite of Survais from the ground up. It is now more efficient than ever, and in terms of development it is much easier to build upon (less technical debt going forward).

The homepage may be a bit lacking right now but there will be some content coming soonβ„’.

We would love to get feedback on our current offerings so please do head over to www.survais.com and check it out.

We've decided to shelve live chat for now - but it may be something that we pick back up in the future. Working on the live chat functionality prompted us to relook at how Survais was originally built - and ultimately led to the decision of a rewrite.

We are already reaping the rewards as Survais is now much easier to build upon. We have some very cool social features (YouTube, Spotify, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Twitch) that are currently in beta, with more to come (Reddit, Imgur).

Survais is not just a surveying tool - although it's damn good at that too.

July 11, 2018 A Change is Gonna Come

We took a step pack to analyse the potential technical debt and decided that a complete overhaul was in order.

In order to make Survais extensible moving forward, a change was needed.

As they say, a change is as good as a rest.

This post was written after the fact, and it took quite a bit more time than originally thought to get through the process.

May 24, 2018 Chat Started, 10words

Survais was featured in the 10words.io mailing list which provided a small number of clicks that I am very grateful for.

Additionally I took some leave from med school and will be working more on Survais - starting with live chat functionality.

March 1, 2018 Call To Action Survais Added

Survais added a new type of slide - the call to action.

Simply provides a link for users to click on the Survais widget.

Additionally around this time:

  • MailChimp can now be integrated into email capturing slides
  • A bare bones WordPress plugin was released to make it easier to enable/disable Survais across your WordPress site

August 1, 2017 Complete Overhaul

New features were difficult to add in the old state that Survais was in. The architectural design was not very extensible, and it was difficult to add new features.

So after months of being dormant from a development standpoint, Survais was completely redeveloped from scratch - which allowed for many things to be cleaned up and extensibility was kept in the forefront this time.

The old Survais could only ask multiple choice questions. The new Survais added:

  • Email capturing
  • Feedback capturing
  • Information providing

Stripe was also added as our payment processor (there was none before - but no users other than me so who cared).

Development again goes sporadic after August 2017 as I headed back to med school.
