Added Parity Pricing, made some sales
by GeneYesterday I added Parity Bar to Swipe. Parity Bar allows you to set discounts based on where people are coming from geographically speaking. This makes products a bit more affordable to people in countries with lower costs of living and lower incomes.
To my surprise, I saw 4 sales come in almost right away -- as soon as I announced it on Twitter.
Also announced student discounts and had two students DM me, who then purchased.
Parity pricing works ;)
I'll be monitoring for abuse of course, but otherwise happy with the decision!

Hey Gene,
Looking at doing Parity Pricing for Software Ideas soon, a couple questions for you if you don't mind!
- What was the process of creating the coupons? Does it work well enough?
- Any issues of fraud yet, and how are you monitoring for fraud?
- If you do any affiliate / discounts, how did you set up Parity Pricing to play nicely with those other discounts?
Would really appreciate your insight here!

- After installing parity bar code, I went to Gumroad's coupons page and created the coupons for the recommended amount off. I then plugged those codes into the settings in Parity Bar.
- No issues with fraud that I know of yet. I manually spot check who is buying and their names seem to indicate they are from that country. I realize this is a very poor way of monitoring but frankly I don't care all that much. If someone goes to great lengths to cheat me, f' it. I just hope they do really well with their SaaS so they can come back and buy it legitimately ;)
- I do have affiliate discounts, but I don't do anything special with parity bar. Visitors can claim whichever discount is best for them.
This is all part of my "abundance" mindset. Give people access for the most reasonable price to them. Price is not really the point.

Awesome, thanks Gene! So in other words you might offer a discount of 20% through an affiliate link, but a 50% discount through PPP. So if an affiliate sends someone to your website but the user clicks the 50% discount, does the affiliate get paid? That's what I'm still trying to figure out for my own product.

If they use an affiliate link the affiliate gets paid no matter which discount is used.

I think it was in one of the latest IH newsletters?How does Parity Bar work? Is it easy to implement?
