Extension to save Google Meet Transcription

After launching voice to text meeting notes a month ago I continued interviewing PMs and teams to better understand how they run meetings and why having notes is important.

Surveys shows that near 80% already have remote meetings and it's crucial for them to have a log of discussion.

After exploring ways how could I integrate Google Meet with the notes, Extension seemed the best fit: reuse code, no new engines and new marketplace.

There were some difficulties with Firebase Integration inside Extension, but this repo is super helpful: https://github.com/firebase/quickstart-js/tree/master/auth/chromextension

Happy to announce that it's up and running in Chrome Marketplace now 🤗https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/tactiq-for-hangouts-meet/fggkaccpbmombhnjkjokndojfgagejfb

Useful distinction here: meeting transcription and in-the-moment drafting are adjacent, but they solve different bottlenecks.

Tactiq makes a lot of sense for passive meeting logs. The workflow that has stuck more for me outside meetings is active push-to-talk capture for docs, email, backlog grooming, and quick drafts in any app.

Disclosure: I’m helping with Wispr Flow outreach, so I’m affiliated on that side. If anyone here wants to test the active-capture workflow, this is the referral link I’m using: https://wisprflow.ai/r?ANTON578&utm_source=indiehackers&utm_medium=comment&utm_campaign=wispr_referral&utm_content=tactiq_active_capture

Curious whether your strongest retention comes more from teams archiving meetings, or from people turning those transcripts into follow-up tasks and docs right away?

This is a really clever idea and one that feels obvious in retrospect. Something we really need in meetings. Nice work!

🔥 Thanks @joshuantaylor! Could you tell for what types of meetings it it important for you to have full transcription?

Specifically cross functional meetings where there are lots of topics being discusses. Anything that will have a share out afterwards. I don't see it as necessary for people on the same team that are in more of a collaborative scenario. Obviously the type of company matters too. If you want a record of all convos (like HR, or anything else where you want to go back and say "I told you so"), it's really nice.
