Travel Smart, Travel Better

August 5, 2026 I launched a travel startup in India with zero developers — and got my first online leads

I’m Jatin, a solo founder from India building Tag Getaways, a travel startup focused on domestic holidays, and international destinations.

The unusual part: I launched the business website without hiring a developer.

My father started as a freelance tour operator in 2000, so travel operations were always familiar to me. But I had no coding background. then worked in several startups, and decided to build something of my own.

The challenge

I wanted to move an offline travel business online with:

  • very little budget,

  • no tech team,

  • no designer,

  • and no marketing agency.

Most travel startups spend heavily on apps, ads, and developers. I couldn’t.

What I did

I built the website myself using #Odoo and learned everything through YouTube, forums, and trial-and-error.

I focused on:

  • clear package pages,

  • WhatsApp inquiries,

  • transparent pricing,

  • SEO basics,

  • and fast response time.

The first version was far from perfect, but it was live.

How we make money

Tag Getaways earns through tour package bookings, hotel bookings, transportation services, and travel partnerships. We work directly with hotels and local suppliers, so our pricing is often closer to B2B rates than typical retail travel pricing.

What happened in the first few weeks

After publishing destination pages and sharing them organically, I started receiving real travel inquiries through WhatsApp and the website. They weren’t huge numbers, but they were proof that strangers were discovering the business online.

That moment changed my mindset completely.

What worked better than expected

  • Writing detailed destination content instead of thin sales pages.

  • Adding itinerary, inclusions, exclusions, and practical travel information.

  • Responding to inquiries within minutes.

  • Showing a real founder story instead of acting like a large company.

What didn’t work

  • Generic homepage copy.

  • Too many destinations at once.

  • Spending time on logo tweaks instead of traffic generation.

  • Waiting for the website to feel “perfect.”

Current focus

I’m now improving:

  • SEO,

  • conversion rate,

  • email capture,

  • B2B travel partnerships,

  • and repeat-customer loyalty features.

Why I’m posting here

I’d love feedback from other founders on:

  1. The website positioning.

  2. Whether the “B2B pricing for B2C travelers” message is compelling.

  3. Low-cost ways to grow a travel business internationally.

  4. Any mistakes you see immediately from a startup perspective.

Building this with almost no technical background has been both exhausting and exciting. If this post helps another non-technical founder start before they feel ready, it was worth writing.

The first inbound inquiries from strangers are more interesting than the website build itself.

On the “B2B pricing for B2C travelers” angle — are those early customers actually responding to the pricing advantage, or are they choosing you for reasons you didn’t expect?
