First public tests of Talk are live
I opened Talk for public testing.
The first interesting thing I learned is that people don't immediately ask about features. They ask about the idea itself:
Why no history?
Why one public stream?
Why Passkeys?
Those questions are exactly what I wanted to explore.
Talk is not trying to replace Discord or Telegram. It is an experiment around a different question:
What if the value of an online conversation is the moment when people are there?

The fact that early testers are questioning the underlying assumptions rather than asking for features is probably the most interesting signal in this post. It suggests the concept itself is generating discussion.
I think this kind of communication is still needed. Not every conversation has to happen behind closed doors, inside private groups and rooms. Sometimes people just need an open place to speak — one person or a hundred, here and now — with nothing but their words.
That makes the underlying proposition clearer. The interesting part may be whether people actually choose that openness when they have the option, rather than whether they agree with the idea in principle.
Exactly. That is what we are testing now. We want to see if people still want a place for open conversation — without rooms, without groups, just people being there and talking.
That’s the right validation question. Agreement with the idea matters less than whether people actually choose the open format when they have alternatives.
