June 12, 2021 MVP Released

After close to 6 months of development, we finally had a minimum feature set that we felt confident releasing to the world. We had a major setback that required a large refactor of our backend. We bit the bullet and spent an additional 2 months, but we think it was well worth the effort. TaskGrid is in a good place to scale and continue to build on. We are excited to bring on users and prioritize new releases based on their feedback.

The best part is that we get to plan out future releases of TaskGrid inside of TaskGrid 💪🏼

I’ve used it on multiple projects and I was way under budget on all of them. Highly recommend giving it a try.

December 11, 2020 First Hackathon!

We decided to pull the trigger and see how far we could get in one night. We got our kids down and went after it until 4:30 AM. Not quite an all nighter, but might as well have been. I realized that doing stuff like this takes years off your life when you have kids, because there is no way to recover that lost sleep 😅.

We made great progress on the authentication system. We basically created an app that you can log in and out of with a blank home screen 🤓. It was exciting to start turning our vision into something tangible. We can't wait to see what TaskGrid turns into!

October 20, 2020 Proof of Concept

Before building any software, we decided to try out our idea with a custom google spreadsheet and try to manage a client's project with it. We have been doing a lot of interview calls with startups and found a company that was willing to give it a shot.

They were actually very impressed with how it helped them organize their project, and think through the features that were most important to build.

We also used it on a few projects in our freelancing businesses and found it to be quite useful. The biggest challenge was that we didn't have a good way to make changes and improvements at scale since everyone had their own copy of the spreadsheet.

We knew we needed some real software if we wanted to reach more customers.

July 12, 2020 TaskGrid is born

Jordan and I decided to collaborate on how we could build scalable freelance development businesses. The conversation quickly turned into a discussion about all of the challenges with freelance development, especially bidding, scope creep and how hard it is to be on the same page with clients.

At one point we realized the best way to create a more scalable business would be to tackle these pain points by working together and building a product business. We realized if we could solve these problems, we could make an enormous impact and help companies and freelancers produce higher quality digital products faster than ever.

About

80% of software dev projects are behind schedule and over-budget. As freelancers, we have experienced the pains of scope creep, miscommunication, managing expectations, setting accurate timelines and bids.
