See the tax you really pay — and save some of it LEGALLY.

September 12, 2026 I built Tax.cal to help people find legal ways to pay less tax.

Most tax calculators tell you how much tax you owe.

I wanted to build something more useful: a tool that helps you understand where your money is going to tax, and where you may be able to legally keep more of it.

Tax.cal calculates your effective tax rate by looking beyond just income tax. It accounts for things like social contributions, state or provincial taxes, VAT or sales tax, and fuel duty, depending on the country.

The point isn't to make people feel bad about paying taxes. It's to make the tax system understandable enough that you can spot legitimate ways to reduce your tax burden.

Tax.cal is free, runs in the browser, and doesn't require an account.

I'm still improving the model and the legal-saving guidance, so I'm particularly interested in finding places where the calculations or assumptions are wrong, incomplete, or could be more useful.

The tax-saving guidance is the real wedge. Have users actually found a legitimate saving they would have missed with a normal tax calculator, or is proving that outcome still the main unknown?

That's the part I'm trying to validate now. The calculator shows the problem; the real test is whether the guidance can uncover legitimate savings people wouldn't have found otherwise. I tried some with my friends in Canada and UK and they found some legit places that they could've saved their tax before they even paid it. I want you to try it as well. I'll look forward to your Feedback.

That’s a useful early signal, especially since people have already found savings they would have missed. If you’re open to it, what’s the best email to reach you on?

About

I built Tax.cal to answer a simple question: what share of my income actually becomes tax once you count the VAT and fuel duty that never appear on a payslip? And what ways I can save some without any Legal Trouble.
