The ChatGPT Chrome extension to increase productivity
I sold TeamSmart AI.
In just five short months, my idea went from concept to acquisition. This is my second acquisition this year, and I’ll share how I did it in this post: How to Build a Sellable Side-Project in 5 Months: From Idea to Acquisition.
Three months after launch, TeamSmart AI just got customer number 200. This is a nice milestone. Some other interesting stats:
- 50K+ pageviews
- 9K Chrome extension installs
- 4.55 stars on Chrome store (20 reviews)
Also, organic search results in Google are growing slowly but steadily.
Everything is fully automated, so let's see if this continues to grow without spending too much time or money.

It's a great milestone to achieve in three months, @jakeprins. What growth strategies helped you reach 9k installs? Are you also running ads on social media?

Thank you. I haven't used any paid marketing to get here. It's mostly just AI directories and newsletters linked to my landing page. Some big Twitter accounts tweeted about it, which helped. That's not sustainable, so I'm now more focused on SEO.

That's impressive, Jake! It's inspiring to see how organic growth strategies can lead to such success. I am also working on increasing awareness and acquiring more users for our recently launched extension. The AI directories have been incredibly helpful, contributing to over 950 organic downloads so far. Now, I have started testing Google Ads to further spread awareness about it.

Updated web version 💻
The web version of TeamSmart was lacking behind. Not anymore! Go to chat.teamsmart.ai to use the same interface you are used to when using the TeamSmart New Tab. Great for if you turned off the new tab feature but still like a bigger interface for chatting with your AI assistants and keeping track of your todo's.
Mobile web version 📱
From today, you can now even use TeamSmart AI on your mobile phone. The web version was not yet responsive, but from today you can visit chat.teamsmart.ai and chat with your assistants on your phone! Be aware that data is stored locally on your device and is not shared between the extension and the web version. So your chats will not be synced.

Although there was an initial spike in sales, it eventually slowed down. However, the mention of TeamSmart by some prominent Twitter accounts helped to increase sales again.
I am currently focusing on SEO and searching for a sustainable strategy to maintain and grow sales organically.
Today, I'm launching TeamSmart AI on ProductHunt!
After initially getting lots of traffic from a post on weibo, the traffic and sales went down afterward. Let's see if launching on ProductHunt could get some more exposure to the product.

TeamSmart AI got published in several newsletters and on a Chinese social platform called Weibo. This led to a bunch of new sales.
I've added a bunch of new features and updated the landing page. Preparing for a ProductHunt launch tomorrow. Let's see if I can get to 100 sales this month.

How did you get the 50 sales?

It got posted on a social platform (weibo.cn), and that lead to a lot of traffic. I've never heard of it, but it led to a big chunk of the sales. That has now dropped completely, so I must find new ways to get traffic.
Today, I'm launching it on ProductHunt. It would mean a lot if you could check it out 🙂

Today I got my first 3 sales on one day. This is a great start.
TeamSmart AI is free to use, but it offers a couple of additional features for a one-time purchase. When users upgrade to Premium, they get dark mode, can add unlimited amount of AI assistants to their team, and a bunch of other features.
Great to get validation so quickly.
"Congratulations! The following item that you submitted for review has been successfully published to the Chrome Web Store: V0.0.1"
That must have been a record for me. Building an MVP within two weeks and having it live in the Chrome Store.
Already have one user: me. Now let's get this in front of more eyes.
Had to play around with the OpenAI API. The best way to learn for me is to build.
Let's build a chrome extension that allows users to bring their own OpenAI API key. This has some nice benefits like instant access to ChatGPT and no need for login. I'm sure I can also improve the UI and add more features, like page summarization.
