Ten Dollar Adventure

For the last 6 months, I have been working on an interactive story adventure to teach children about entrepreneurship, money management, and the value of creative effort. Making Ten Dollar Adventure has not just been an effort in authoring a story but one that involved writing my own tools (hello Elisp!) and app, and creating a rich experience for readers.

Ten Dollar Adventure is officially available in these feature-rich formats: Paperback, Hardcover, Web Book and Audiobook. I'm especially proud of the unique elements packed in to make the book a truly special experience:

• Audiobook: Unlike a traditional audiobook, this one covers all 252 possible storylines and an optional intermission for reflection; the screen-free mode is perfect for car rides and background listening.

• Web Book: For tablet or phone use, includes arithmetic explainer and narration features but styled simply to minimize distractions.

• A Safe Online Dashboard: An anonymous "magic words" system that connects the physical book to a private online dashboard, so parents/kids can track their achievements easily without sharing any personal information.

• Hands-On Fun: The physical books include cut-out play money for tangible, real-world earning, saving and spending play!

The magic of Ten Dollar Adventure is that it teaches implicitly through an engaging story. Through making choices for Daphne, kids will intuitively grasp the fundamentals of earning, saving, and spending. They ll experience the importance of early customer engagement as Daphne launches her ventures, and learn the value of taking downtime to recharge. It even explores how helping others freely like when Daphne helps a neighbor wash a dog is the first step toward building a supportive network of your own.
