March 10, 2020 Public Beta Launch

Deployed the version of the landing page and removed the beta code from the registration process. I joined Startup School back in January and one of my goals was to launch by the end of the process. This is the last week of Startup School, so I was cutting it a little close!

The current goal is to collect feedback, rather than subscription money. Plus it allows me to delay implementing the Stripe integration and instead focus on the fundamentals.

February 8, 2020 Friends and Family Launch

Deployed the Tendship to production!

This is a stealth "friends and family" launch. There is no landing page made yet and if anyone else finds it by some any chance, there is a beta code preventing any unwanted sign ups.

I started using it myself and started collected feedback from friends. My own itch is scratched, so I am happy.

February 6, 2020 Deploy to Develop Environment

One step away from deploying to production! Deployed the frontend to Netlify and the backend to DigitalOcean.

Netlify is excellent as always.

DigitalOcean is less so. My day job uses AWS, but I wanted to try out using DO since it was cheaper and released two features I was waiting for: managed databases and load balancing. The former is necessary because managing your own database is for crazy people. The latter is necessary to make blue-green deployments easier. However, since these feature are so new, they feel a bit fragile.

December 23, 2019 Development Starts

Tendship has been an idea I have been playing around in some form for a few years now. It is almost a yearly tradition for me to spend the winter holiday break working on yet another iteration of Tendship.

The first attempt failed because I spent too much time learning new tools, rather making a product.

The second attempt failed because I started coding before I fully figured out what I needed to build. Losing momentum can be killer.

This is the third attempt and third times the charm!
