Terra API
The connectivity layer for health data for developers and AI
tl; dr
- New integrations: Hello Clue, TrainAsOne, Tredict, Hammerhead, and TrainingPeaks posting of planned workouts allow for more comprehensive tracking of fitness data.
- Our in-house machine learning model for Freestyle Libre pro sensors significantly increases glucose-reading accuracy to close to 100%.
- We now retry rate-limited requests to Withings, ensuring users always receive data.

This past weekend, we had the opportunity to attend IC Hack 2023 at Imperial College London, regarded as UK’s largest university hackathon, with over 600 students attending. As a gold sponsor of the event, we had the opportunity to select a prize category for which students could sign up in teams of six.

It seems counterintuitive, but what ends up happening when increasing the team size is that the productivity per person drops, and the team's output is decreased, although the number of people increases.

Introduction
Many people are wondering what is happening at Terra. Here’s an overview of our team, our culture, and how things work
What we do
Terra is an API that makes it easy for apps to connect to wearables. Currently, apps and developers in the fitness, wellness, sleep, and overall health spaces are using us. Terra was launched in early 2021, and since then we’ve been growing like crazy. But this is just the beginning. We are now reaching the scale of any type of consumer app using us.

It was 15 years ago, I started using my first health sensor — a Polar HRM. So uncomfortable, yet such great insights. By seeing the cardiac output and calorie expenditure, I could optimize and maximize the weight I could lift since I was a powerlifter.
A couple of years later, I had to become more of a marathon runner since I joined the special forces, and thus I needed to train in different cardiac zones. In my first 60km long march, I used a Polar FT80, and I still remember that after 10 hours of grueling training, it showed ‘6328 calories burned. It didn’t even measure the whole thing because its battery drained.
