Feeling fresh in your [new logo & website design(https://gapscout.com/blog/new-gapscout-website/).
Building a startup has many moving parts, including marketing. I started GapScout with a basic website template so I could start collecting emails of interested parties. Today, the updated brand and website is done - and it's looking good!
Also, an update on our upcoming release!

The "build in public" culture is often obsessed with meeting sexy milestones to share with anyone who will listen. The thing is, sometimes progress is being made, but it's not exciting... at least not in the traditional sense.
To recap, I'm building GapScout to help solopreneurs and small businesses find profitable opportunities in their market.
Well... I'm not building it directly. I hired an agency.
It's no secret that I don't know how to code. Of course, that didn't stop me with my previous software company (started in 2013, growing to 40 employees, before selling in 2021). So while I don't sling code, I have experience in this space.
One thing I do know: any successful software project needs a PLAN first.
Plan for marketing
Plan for development
Plan for launch
Plan for post-launch
Plan for growth
As for the build of GapScout, we are currently in the data planning phase, and it's getting pretty deep. This is critical.
Once we have mapped data, then we can build with confidence. It also prevents rework when the build phase eventually comes. So, in some ways, this part takes the longest. But once done, we are quicker to a functioning product!

When you start a business, it's not always about the "big milestones", it's nice to recognize the smaller achievements along the way.
Today, the GapScout website has been up for 30 days. As I did in my previous software company, I started with a content marketing strategy right away. There is no "hack" for content creation. It's a slow, long process. But it pays off!
In 30 days, the GapScout website has seen 2,086 unique visitors.
No secrets, just keyword research, writing quality articles, and sharing the content on the normal social channels.
I do intend to use paid ads as well, but not quite yet, as I'd prefer to do that when the Beta is ready. So for now, the content marketing approach will continue, it definitely is paying off.

In my first software business, I started content marketing 10 months before the product was built. I built an email list, got a good solid footing in Google, and was able to build buzz. This made the launch a success.
For GapScout, I am using this same formula (except we won't have to wait 10 months for launch this time)! 🙂
Our content marketing strategy will be taking place at the same time as product development. I tapped my network and was introduced to a content marketer who will be helping me in this area. I already like what I see with her attention to detail.
Smart content creation is our first step, but after about 30 days or so of implementing and measuring, I will begin the outreach process to start building relations with bloggers and websites in the same niche.
At the end of the day, solopreneurs and small businesses will benefit from using GapScout, and this content marketing strategy is to help them find us!

When I was in middle school, my principal used to say: the hardest part about any project is starting it.
Today, I have started to officially tell people about GapScout. The idea for a micro-saas has been in my head for a while. I figured it was time to tell the world, which makes it real!
This is my second foray into software (the first of which ending with a successful exit). I learned a lot during that time, and I can't wait to apply those learnings to this new venture.
Unlike before, I'll be posting more regularly about how things are going. I think the cool kids call it "building in public". 😎

About
My first software company (acquired) was a success because it found a gap in the market, and innovated within that gap. GapScout helps you do the same, by finding profitable opportunities in your market.
