PhoneTag
Snapchat for voice messages
Sitting just at the bottom of the front page (after you click "show more") on Product Hunt and have picked up a few upvotes so far:
https://www.producthunt.com/posts/phonetag-3
It's still early in the day but I'm hoping I can grab some more upvotes throughout the day and move up a bit. Either way I'm happy to have made it this far in the journey and am already thinking about new features for PhoneTag and even my next product.
Thanks,
Evan
Initially I posted my app to Product Hunt this morning (around 7am) - an hour later I hadn’t received any upvotes and then discovered that my post had disappeared!
I checked my profile and saw that my post has been switched from Live to Scheduled to tomorrow. I reached out to PH through their live chat and they told me that they scheduled it for tomorrow so that my post could get the full 24 hours and had done so because they “liked my app”.
Trying not to get too excited, but I’m hoping that’s a good sign that I’ll have a decent launch day. Either way, I’m happy to be rolling PhoneTag out with all of my goals met in terms of features etc. No matter what happens tomorrow I’m really happy with my experience building the app, have caught the maker bug, and already have my next idea to start building.

PhoneTag is officially live on the iOS App Store! The approval process went super quick and it was approved on the first try. Already found a couple bugs that I’m going to tackle in a new release this weekend - in the meantime check it out!

Worked out some kinks in the MVP and added basic support for iPad after reading up on app submission guidelines. There's still a fair chance the app may get rejected - for now its sitting at "In Review" and I can see that somebody in Reno, NV looked at the Welcome Screen (but no further).
I've submitted an app to the Apple app store before as part of a team - but this is my first time on my own. I'm very eager to see if it gets accepted - but also fully expect it won't on the first try :)

It’s been several months since I’ve posted. Due to some holiday travel & other life stuff I took a break for a while. Due to Coronavirus I’ve had time to start things back up and I now have an MVP that I’m submitting to the App Store today!
Also I’ve changed the name of the product from The Beep to PhoneTag. Should be able to get the app submitted today and hopefully approved this week. Next step after that is to share with this community and some friends to get feedback - perhaps it’ll be a welcome distraction for all during this quarantine.

Just finished writing up everything I believe will be necessary on the backend to power the first version of The Beep. Was my first time writing an API in Node and I loved it. So much better than PHP.
At some point I need to muster the patience to write unit tests and integration tests :P

I've put together a prototype for The Beep that I'd love feedback on if anybody is willing:

The 8-bit pixelated feel of the app is on purpose (in case your wondering) but would love to hear any thoughts / feelings it evokes (i.e. - feel free to hate).

I just tried but I have no clue what it is. Is it an answering machine, an audio player, a voice message app?

Haha - you’re actually super close. It’s a voice messaging app with self-destructing messages (think Snapchat + answering machine). From your feedback I’m gathering that I’ll likely want to have a walkthrough on sign up that describes the app’s major features.
Thanks so much for taking a look and providing feedback!

Oh snapshat for voice message. Yeah now that's clear.
Instead of doing walkthrough that most people skip, start with a black and white wireframe, and work only on the UX flow and layout. It should be understanble with no colour.
Also try to avoid jargon that people would not immediately understand like "ANSA MATIC", "SPKR"

The Beep is a voice-messaging social app that will rely solely on a users phone number as an authentication method. Today I'm officially accepting pre-registration at TheBeep.app. The sign-up page is a bit...different...so I'm very interested to hear any feedback anybody might have for the design / experience!
Haven't quite yet settled on how I'm going to get the word out to gather alpha users for launch other than posting here. Hoping to have an alpha version of the app built and launched before the end of the month.

I can't read the text on the button.
Also, I have no idea what entering my phone number means, which will probably mean I wouldn't dare enter it.

Yeah the button has no text currently - I'm playing around a bit with the concept of having non-obvious interfaces where the user kind of has to think to figure out what's going on. I know the flies completely in the face of like all usability and conversion optimization principles.
Totally valid feedback - especially about not wanting to give the phone number without further explanation. I want to figure out a solution that let's me communicate what will happen without having to add anything outside of the actual "beeper" interface. Need to think on that.

Have been messing around on this project for the past month off and on and lurking on IH for about the same time. Finally bit the bullet and created an account.
Creating the account made me describe the project in a few words and explain why I'm building it - which was useful. Excited to jump in and start participating in the community!

About
One of my favorite things in the world is leaving my wife a voicemail message, so I wanted to build an app that would let me do that anytime I want.
