The Calculator Website
Handy, free, online calculators
I wrote my first blog post for the site today. I'm hoping it matches the persona of my ideal user and provides them with genuinely useful content.
A lot of people are saying that blogging is dead, but I think there's still a place for a blog if it provides authentic and genuine content.
I’ve had some fun recently building more calculators for the site and thinking about new ones that people might find useful.
But the real challenge is ranking on Google! Building backlinks is super difficult and time consuming, and often you don’t have anything to show for all the time you spend on it. I wish there was an easier way.
What’s worse - the industry standard keyword analysis tools are really expensive!
Keeping at it
I worked on this project over a weekend. It involved some Javascript for the calculator logic, but for the front-end/design I just used Wix. I'm not a UX expert, so it could probably be better, but I do know that my wife uses this site now so it clearly works!
My wife struggles to calculate percentages.
I noticed this when we were working from home and she googled "percentage calculator" and used the simple web form on the first result to perform the calculation.
As someone pretty good with numbers, this was a bit of a surprise to me. I realised that people who aren't confident with numbers don't necessarily care about the inner workings of the calculation, or want a tutorial on how to do it - they just want the answer and they want it quickly.
So I decided to create a site with a bunch of these useful utilities that was spam free, clean and really easy to use.
