The Chat Widget
Lightweight, privacy-first live chat widget
In the age of AI, it’s easier than ever to build digital products. Inspired by lightweight privacy-first chat apps, I decided to build something similar for websites.
This led to thechatwidget.com, a tiny (3KB!) chat widget that won’t hurt your Lighthouse score, but still packs features like:
Gmail-style threading to answer visitors via email
A lightweight CRM to track visitors
A PWA so you can respond from your phone
What started as a “why not?” turned into a full-stack app with edge-native architecture to deliver messages quickly—even on 3G.
I’m offering a 14-day free trial and would love to hear your thoughts:
First impressions of the UI/UX
Anything confusing or missing
Features you’d like to see
Try it out and let me know what you think!
About
Most live chat tools are heavy, slow, and overbuilt for small teams. I wanted a simple, privacy-first chat widget that loads instantly, works well on mobile, and doesn’t compromise site performance.
