The Freelance Choice
Become a better freelancer
At The Freelance Choice, I want to provide resources to help freelance devs move forward in their careers. The resources include podcast episodes, book recommendations, and interviews with successful freelancers.
When I had the original idea, I thought of Stefan Mischook as one of the first people I would love to interview, so I very naively emailed him asking if he'd like to participate. He agreed to do the interview (when the site would be up), and I just published it!
Holly molly, I finally launched The Freelance Choice!
Main lessons I learned while building it:
- Prioritizing requires hard work, but it pays off.
- There are built-in solutions for almost anything out there. Do your research before developing your own.
- Self-imposed deadlines are harder to meet when there's nobody to report to!
- Self-discipline is a superpower.
- That rush you feel when you come up with a new idea for your baby... Indiehacking is fun!
- Devs out there: I was tempted to choose the new and flashy svelte.js to build the frontend. As much as I love its syntax, I am happy I ended up choosing a more mature platform such as React.js. Community support and packages save you hours of building your custom solutions.
Next goals:
- Find freelancers who'd like to share their journey with the community and be featured.
- Find communities with high digital freelancing density and get feedback on the site!
- More features! Exciting stuff coming up :-)
