Recover your deleted Great Suspender tabs
Although I thought that piggy-backing on the back of a major newsworthy item would have gotten my tool additional exposure that could perhaps take it viral, that didn't happen.
However, a lot of people found it really useful:
Additionally, a popup in the tool pointed folks to my new product which is currently in Early Access.
This resulted in:
- 20 new Twitter followers
- 30 new sign-ups
Not bad for 9 hours work!

Following the deletion of users tabs around the world, I set to work to build an extension that would recover them from history:
- 21:00 - fork my other extension WorkFlowy MultiFlowy
- 01:00 - POC which could copy data to the clipboard
- 04:00 - bookmarking functionality added
- 06:00 - feature complete and ready to go live
Between the hours of 6 and 8am I got trigger happy on Twitter, and at 8:05am I released to Product Hunt just after 12am Pacific time!
Because the Chrome Web Store was currently taking 3-4 days to approve a product, I decided to release to GitHub so anyone could download and sideload the extension without waiting a few, agonising days:
The aim was to make it a much less stressful day for those who lost their tabs, but also to give the wider world a sneak preview of something I've been working on for some time now (watch this space!)

I found out about the malware issues with the Great Suspender last month and since I open A LOT of tabs while studying and working 😅, I had to look for other alternatives to fill the void. Have been using the Simple Tab Suspender tool and its been an awesome replacement.

On the evening of February 4th 2021 at about 9pm, Chrome decided to nuke The Great Suspender, both in the Web Store and on people's browsers.
This caused 100s of 1000s of users from round the world to instantly lose 10s, 100s, or even 1000s of tabs they had "suspended", waiting to be used another day.
Luckily for me it's not something I use, but Twitter started to go crazy with reports of people losing tabs and weeks or months of work.
However, being an extension developer I realised pretty quickly I could build something to at least restore tabs from History, so I decided to set to work ...

Alright! Any reason why not? I would have assumed that velocity would be your number one priority.

I show a popover in the bottom right hand corner which links to a sign-up form for my next project.
It's more important to me that the extension is free, provides value, and is available for anyone to use than it is for me to profit directly from it.

Great, thanks for sharing! It's always interesting to me just how many folks on IH aren't directly interested in making money.
