Our AI looks beyond surface-level traits like looks or hobbies. Instead, it analyzes deeper signals from users’ answers to open-ended questions, values, life goals, personality traits, and how people communicate.

For example, it considers things like:
• Are they looking for the same type of relationship (serious, casual, etc.)?
• Do they share core values (e.g. family, career, lifestyle)?
• Do their communication styles match?
• Are there deal-breakers that would make the match a bad fit?

We’re also planning to show users a short explanation — “match insights” — about why the AI picked a specific person, to help build trust and transparency.

Of course, no AI can guarantee chemistry, but our goal is to give people a much better starting point than random swiping.

The way I see it, AI can never “guarantee” chemistry, but it can help make smarter initial introductions based on deeper signals: shared values, life goals, communication styles, and how people express themselves in open-ended questions.

We’re also planning to show “match insights,” so users understand why the AI thinks two people could be a great fit. Transparency is key to building trust — I agree it’s not enough to just say “trust us.”

What if the match doesn’t work out?
Great question! We definitely don’t want people stuck with one choice forever if it’s not working. The idea is to encourage users to invest real focus into exploring one connection first (instead of swiping endlessly), but if it’s clearly not a fit after genuine effort, the AI would eventually suggest a new match. We’re still testing how best to define “genuine effort” without making users feel trapped.

On overcoming the “maybe there’s someone else” mindset:
This is the toughest part. Choice overload makes dating feel like an infinite to-do list, but fear of missing out keeps people from committing. We hope that:

• Showing users why a match was picked will help them feel more confident in focusing on one person.

• Telling real stories of successful matches will help normalize the idea that quality > quantity.

• Making the user experience feel more intentional and less like a marketplace might reduce the urge to “keep browsing.”

I’m planning for The One to have multiple layers of support:

• In-app guidance: Contextual help and tooltips to explain how features work and what users should expect, especially since the concept of “one match” is quite different from other apps.

• AI-powered help: An AI assistant that can answer common questions, guide users through the app, and even explain why a certain match was chosen (to build trust).

• Human support: For more complex or sensitive issues, users will be able to reach out to real people. Dating is a very personal space, so I want to make sure there’s always a human option when needed.

I’m also considering building a “How It Works” section to demystify the matching logic and help users feel more comfortable and informed.
