The Tiny MBA
100 very short lessons about the long game of business
Ratings and reviews are surprisingly tough to get, even when people go out of their way to say they love the product.
I've been chipping away at this though, asking every person who I interact with about their experience with the book and as of this morning I broke through the 100 rating mark, and I'm closing in on 50 reviews!
While it feels good it's also a tiny percent of readers...just under 2.5% for ratings and half that for reviews. So lots of headroom to grow.
Still gonna celebrate the milestone!
After my recent experiment with a newsletter ad in Dense Discovery I updated my sales reports and saw that sometime last week we passed $30k in the first 3 months since launching The Tiny MBA! ๐๐๐
Digital books are a ~70-97% margin, but also only around 35% of all books.
Paperbacks make up the bulk of the sales (which surprised me!) And they run around a 50% margin.
In the next few months I'm experimenting with a few more newsletter ad ideas, affiliates, and continuing what's been working with podcast guest spots and giveaway collabs on social media and newsletters.
Next stop $50k!

This morning we sold the 2000th copy of The Tiny MBA ๐ฎ it's been 7 weeks since presales began, and about 3 weeks since the official launch.
I've also published a new podcast episode every week since mid-august, a sold streak since the feed had gone dormant since 2017. Thanks to Descript I'm actually having fun editing again!

Whew, that's hard!๐ Much of the marketing stuff resonated with me since that's my background, but as someone who started a new business, the part about competition and failure I felt DEEPLY. I sometimes suffer from self-doubt and reading your thoughts on what's in a business owner's control gave me much needed perspective.

Hey @alexhillman, I love reading this information about the book, BUT WHERE'S THE LINK TO BUY IT??? I want to put it on my list of books I'm going to read! Can you please insert a link somewhere on this page by your name on the top right so it's easy to find and doesn't get lost in the comments? Thank you and great job!

Today was unreal. After sending an email to our main newsletter, book sales exploded. For almost 2.5 hours we were averaging a book per minute.
The book also hit #1 on the Amazon charts in a new category, Startups, ahead of Brad Feldโs new book and Guy Raz!

Started sending emails to the preorder queue, roughly 100 at a time. 90%+ conversion rate!
I also made a quick announcement on Twitter.
Within a few hours, had the first 150 sales! Longer update here with stats https://www.indiehackers.com/post/the-tiny-mba-pre-sales-launched-today-first-150-sales-in-just-a-few-hours-any-questions-9978c99a55
