For the past few weeks, I have been working on an aggregate-style weekly newsletter for Real Estate Investing. I am a part-time Real Estate Investor myself, and I had a really good idea for a newsletter in a market that is lacking good aggregate newsletters.
I'm a Software Engineer by trade, and I love many of the newsletters that a lot of languages/technologies have. Most of these tech newsletters are aggregate style -- they pull information from submissions, twitter feeds, blogs, etc... and display them in a nice digestible format every so often. I thought this was a great idea for a weekly Real Estate Investing newsletter, so I decided to build something similar for myself.
After a couple weeks of work, I finally have some interesting code that generates a lot of content for this newsletter. Every week, this is how it works:
I have a handful of scripts that pull information from around the web. Right now it currently gather information from:
These scripts run, and generate a massive HTML document. I take this HTML document and copy + paste it to my wordpress site as a new blog post
I ALSO copy+paste this information to a new MailChimp campaign, so my newsletter subscribers get this information right to their inbox every week.
Finally, This site is now live (https://theweeklydigs.com), and I'm generating interesting content every week! It has been fun so far, and I'm looking forward to improving things. For one, I'd love to write more scripts to parse twitter hashtags.
So far this has been a fun journey and I'm interested to see how this turns out!
