Game of Thrones app icons for iOS14 homescreen customisation
Woke up this morning to my very first sale.... ever!! It looks as if they came from Product Hunt. I put up a little launch post yesterday to see if it would drive any traffic.... so it seems to have worked.
It might only be £3 but it feels great!!
A nice little win. Monzo - the trendy bank taking over the world - replied to my tweet. I replaced the Monzo app on my phone with that of my Lannister gold crest and renamed it "Debts" and shared it on one of their posts.
Hopefully this little bit of interaction will help promote the project.
I saw that there was a lot of people sharing their home screens after the iOS14 update and I thought it might be a good opportunity to gain some value from an old project.
I originally made a set of game of Throne app icons in 2015 to celebrate my new found love of the show (I was late to the party). Later that year HBO commissioned a Compendium to celebrate the show which called for creators, artists, musicians to submit works that was inspired by the show.
My designs were selected to be part of the publication which ended up as 205 pages bound in a faux dragon skin cover, with a wax seal. Very cool.
These icons have then sat for many years until I dusted them off, refactored and put them on Gumroad... hopefully other fans can get some use out of them. I decided to make them the price of a coffee - £3 - so that I could gain a little money in order to set aside time to make the other houses.

How do you deal with copyright? Is it allowed to sell GoT-related assets?
In my haste I didn't think about any copyright issues which is probably a very bad idea. I assumed its within the "fan art " realm however I do use imagery which is closely associated to the TV show. Going forward I would be more careful.

Oh I hadn't thought about that... purely because I am an iOS user. Good idea. I'll have an explore 🤗

Very much so. It's a little validation that I can actually create something that someone wants. Confidence boost mostly. I've much bigger ideas for products so this was just that start I needed.
