Time bot got 2 new paying customers!

Time bot (https://timebot.chat), Karma bot's younger brother (or sister), just got 2 more customers. One even paid for the whole year in advance.

Conversion rate is 6.8%. Pretty good, but not excellent. We may focus on this next week. And you, well, you should just try https://timebot.chat

Your landing pages are the best looking ever

Thanks so much! Please reach out if you need one. Other pages I made:

Lovely. Do you do the illustrations too Stas?

        1. 1

Yes, can do that too. It's fun to make them, but usually not paid well ) when it's done as a service. I was really happy to apply the skills for my own products.

          1. 1

They are fantastic. Your work has lots of personality.

I think this is a winning idea. I really like the simplicity of it. (To be fair, I don't know what other options are out there right now).

It would be nice to have a "/t finish" command that doesn't end your day -- sometimes I want to finish a task and I don't know what my next task will be, but the timing gets muddied there. Could be a little confusing for users.

I would also ask the user to set their time-zone upon onboarding. This can use some messaging like "Just set your timezone and you're ready to go!" which makes the user feel some accomplishment and also gives them the sense that everything went right. Right now you could feel a little bit lost upon installing.

Your pricing is way too low, IMO -- of course you can raise it in time, but I think it should be higher now and you can offer a discount for early users to entice them to join.

Maybe a lower price for small teams, i.e. <5 people would be fine in the future (they're more cost sensitive).

Maybe first 5 users is a set price and then each additional user is +$x.

/t b or /t break will finish the current task, but not the day.

I would also ask the user to set their time-zone upon onboarding.

      Love the idea, thanks!

On pricing... It's super hard to sell on Slack. We wanted the price to stay low and to get a higher conversion (following carrd.co example) rate. The actual customers are mostly on Standard Slack plan, they're already paying per user/per month. We tried charging per user count for https://karmabot.chat and it didn't work. From what we know, a team of ~20+ people is comfortable paying up to ~$100/m for a product they really love. Time is rather limited atm and we just want it to become the 'small & affordable' solution for time-tracking.

      Thanks again for your feedback!

Actually I'm a little confused now.

Am I paying $8/user/month, or $8/month up to 49 users?

        1. 1

I think I got it: you have 1 user, and that would be - after you switched to yearly - a one-time payment that would mean $8/per user/mo essentially. The bigger team would see cents there

        2. 1

It’s a bug. Should be $8/mo/per team up to 50 users. You can switch and see the price on Billing page, that would be correct. The broken popup is being fixed as we speak.

          1. 1

Yup, I figured that. Just wanted to bring it to your attention as it might be stopping some people from signing up.

            Cheers

Hey, sorry I was a bit unclear.

When I was in an office, for time tracking we would track "breaks" separately from "in-between tasks". So i think if you are targeting larger clients that would be important to add.

        ---

I think time-tracking is a more sellable feature vs karmabot -- for example, I like the idea of karma bot, but not the implementation. And when I wanted to implement something similar at my last office, there was a lot of push back.

Whereas with time tracking, it's used by a lot more companies and there's 0 push back. They are generally paying a per-user fee. (i.e. we were paying $9-14/user for time tracking).

The issue you have there is competition, and being too cheap is a red flag for a lot of people. You need a more differentiated solution, which I guess will come in time -- do you have any ideas on that front?

        ---

        Additional feature request: subtasks

i.e. i want to be able to write

        "/t 'project-name'/'sub-task' "

So that I can see how long I am spending on design/development/marketing for a specific project. Ideally I could also see the time spent doing each different kind of sub-task in total as well (i.e. total time spent doing design)

Thanks, I totally agree, time-tracking is REALLY competitive and it would be hard to compete with https://toggl.com solutions and alike.

          "/t 'project-name'/'sub-task' "

          Added to the roadmap, thanks!

    I love your landing page!

It wasn't clear in the demo I could click the demo shortcuts but when I did it was really easy to understand.

Also, one of my biggest pains is context switching. It'd be cool to see some kind of dashboard of how many times I context switched before completing a task. If my task lengths were predictable, I could then compare times of those tasks when I didn't context switch.

    1. 1

Love the context switching idea. How would you define 'context switching' in Time terms? Switching between channels? Switching between tasks? Some people work in the same channel but they track their progress and create multiple /t doing this now-like records. Would you consider that context switching?

      1. 1

Yes specifically swapping tasks. Personally cant stand doing this and would love to justify how much it kills productivity

        1. 1

I see. Thank you. It would be hard to accommodate both 'context switching' concept and tracking.

  4. 2

Nice interface. Very impressed with the app. I am a one man team. Is there any free model available for one person team, please?

      DM/email me Naren? I can give you a 50% discount ($4/mo, a cuppa coffee a month). Thanks!

    Congrats Stas! Keep going :D
