February 28, 2026 Building a project time tracker as a freelancerPost:

I am building TimeFly, a simple project time tracking app for freelancers and small agencies.

The idea came from my own frustration.

As a freelancer, I was tracking hours, sending invoices, managing multiple projects, and still not having clear visibility into whether my projects were actually profitable. Most tools I tried were either too complex, built for large teams, or packed with features I did not need.

I wanted something focused.

Something that answers simple but important questions:

  • How many billable hours did I actually work?

  • Is this project profitable?

  • Am I undercharging for this client?

So I started building TimeFly.

Right now it includes project management, billable and non billable tracking, team collaboration, reporting, and profitability visibility. I am bootstrapping it while continuing to freelance.

I am still early in the journey, and I would genuinely appreciate feedback from other founders and freelancers.

If you have built a SaaS while freelancing, I would love to hear how you balanced both.

Thanks for reading.

About

I built TimeFly because as a freelancer, I struggled to clearly understand how profitable my projects really were. Most time tracking tools felt either too complex or too generic, packed with features I did not need.
