The web metrics you always wanted

Some things in life are better when shared with others and web analytics might just be one of them:

✨Invite up to 5 team members to each of your projects.

Supporting team members was a fun feature to develop. As with all things, hindsight is 20/20 - this could have been easier if it was a baked in part of the original design but everything runs smoothly now.

As part of this update, several minor UX issues have also been ironed out for a more seamless and unified experience.

April 7, 2024 99 problems but progress ain't one

Here's the dev log you waited all {day, week, month} for. Or not. It's here in any case.

Tiny Metrics is a web analytics solution and it now lets you do even more stuff with your data.

All changes are the result of dogfooding:

πŸ” Drill-down filtering: Correlate x with y with z, e.g. referrers, countries, and page visits.
🎯 UTM overview: Follow your campaigns and inspect all relevant tracking parameters.

Aside from new features, I released several improvements:

πŸ’ The dashboard now renders placeholder components while data is loading.
πŸ“ˆ A spike in traffic suddenly made it relevant to paginate the visitor list.
✨ Minor cosmetic changes (borders, number formatting, [...]).

In addition to the above, I also built a small blog powered by Notion. It allows me to edit and publish articles directly from the Notion editor.

That's about it.

Marketing is still hard though so I reckon I'll continue to have 99 problems in perpetuity.

If you're looking for a web analytics solution please feel free to take Tiny Metrics for a spin. It's free. If not, do tell your neighbor, mom, uncle, or anyone else who may be interested 😎

Love the headline for this post πŸ˜‚. Good choice of topic for your first blog post. I'd initially work my way through all the "alternatives to" because that traffic will be furthest down the funnel and most likely to convert. It won't be easy though. You have a lot of competition.

Haha thanks! And indeed, there are a few good options out there. I appreciate the input πŸ™Œ

March 26, 2024 The web analytics you always wanted: Tiny Metrics

That's the vision, anyway.

For a long time I was on the lookout for a web analytics solution to house all my projects. My evaluation criteria were as follows:

πŸ“ˆ Utility: Does it offer insights beyond the bare minimum?
πŸ€” User experience: Is it usable after a long day at 11 PM (or a short night at 6 AM)?
πŸ”§ Technical ease: Will it, in any way, cause me headaches?
πŸ’Έ Affordability: Can it house all my projects without breaking my bank?
πŸ”’ Privacy: Does it respect my visitors?

However, it turns out (and this is probably no surprise given the post you're reading), that few offerings actually meet the above criteria.

Still very much a work in progress but all core functionality works. Come check it out if it sounds interesting to you.
