ToastMaker

Today I've launched ToastMaker on Product Hunt.

Not sure why but it didn't received much attention there.
It didn't even made to the front page.

I think its because I didn't shared it with much wider audience on twitter and facebook etc or maybe because people there are not much interested in some javascript library. But thats fine! As long as this library is useful and other developers are using it I think thats a good motivation for me.

Today I've created a website ToastMaker

It contains API usage and examples to help users understand how to install/include the toastmaker library into their project and how to use it.

The different examples shown on the website will help user understand how to use the different configuration options of ToastMaker library to create beautiful styled toast notification for in their frontend view.

Within one week I've got 180 downloads from npmjs registry. That I think is a good progress. I hope the number will increase in the upcoming weeks. While I am spending some more weekends on improving the functionality, resolving bugs, add adding more test coverage.

It took 2 days, and I'm finally done building the minimum viable product for ToastMaker. I worked mostly a weekend, and I coded the whole thing in javascript since that's where it will be used by clients of this library. I've released the v1.0.0 on npmjs registry and I'm excited about it!

I was looking for some option to show users notifications on the web page based on the actions they perform.

So for example, if the user performs some actions like - deleted a record, clicked on the copy button, upload some file ... etc in such scenarios showing a toast notification saying "Records Deleted", "Text Copied", "Upload Completed" etc for some seconds would be very interactive and it will enhance overall user experience.

I was looking for something similar to android's toast notifications but for web page.

An idea came to my mind - why not create an open source library which creates and shows android like toast notifications on simple HTML web page.

The library should do following

• Supported by both HTML/JavaScript and NPM project module
• Show toast notification on webpage
• Should be very small in size, I don't want more KBs impacting n/w traffic and making web page download slower
• Customisable - the styling and appearance should be very much customisable so that it matches the web page's theme
• Option to specify duration - for how long the toast should be shown on the web page
