April 1, 2025 A ChatGPT enabled Alexa to develop kids' curiosity

It started with a simple idea: What if kids could have their own ChatGPT-enabled Alexa, designed specifically for them?

Building the first AI toy wasn't straightforward. We tackled tough questions: How do we make interactions feel natural? How can we replace screen time with something engaging and educational? Can we create content so interesting kids wouldn't miss their iPads?

Our first prototype was a scrappy combination of GPT-4 for natural conversations, ElevenLabs for realistic voices, and Hume.ai for emotional intelligence. We sold this very first prototype to Michael Seibel, validating early that we were onto something big.

My niece became our earliest and most influential user. Watching her interact, laugh, and genuinely prefer this new device to her iPad showed us the true potential of what we'd built. Her feedback helped shape each update, making the experience smoother, funnier, and more educational.

To improve the storytelling, we began collaborating with an Oscar-nominated writer of "Toy Story." Together, we designed many interactive characters—astronauts, scientists, explorers—each one designed to teach useful things, ignite imagination, and make learning genuinely enjoyable.

Today, our AI toy doesn't just tell stories; it empowers children to explore fascinating topics and worlds while drastically reducing their dependency on screens. The journey has just started, but we're already seeing incredible things happen when curiosity meets technology.
