November 1, 2020 Added music scales tools

I have been fascinated by music and the mathematical principles behind it for decades. I now just developed some new music tools: a music scale generator, that gives the notes (obviously) but also the frequencies and understands equal-tempered as well as pure intonation.
I also added a frequency (Hz) to note calculator

May 3, 2016 Adsense > 400$

I remember once hitting > 400$/month in Google Adsense revenue, that was a high point. It doesn't happen every month, though. Now it's about half of that.

Maybe you should think about displaying a message when the user has an AdBlock extension... By default, my UBlock extension is enabled but I disable it when I use a free service and I have an alert to make me think about it.

September 2, 2015 Official launch of toolstud.io

At some point, I decided to move the tools away from an old ASP server on web.forret.com to its own domain. I decided toolstud.io was catchy enough, bought it, put it on a PHP hosting. Then I had to start migrating one-by-one each page to PHP (from ASP). I also built my own CMS to take care of templating and layout.

September 2, 2012 Photography tools

Developing the https://toolstud.io/photo/ photography tools realy helped me understand the relation between shutter time, aperture, ISO and EV. I realised I also could calculate depth-of-field, and I came up with the concept of "portrait distance": the ideal distance for a portrait, which depends on the focal length. I put all of this into a 'photo composition' calculator that I am still proud of.

September 2, 2009 Digging and debugging

I discovered that if I wanted to really figure out something, like bandwidth conversion, megapixel-vs-dpi, color conversion RGB-to-CMYK, it helped me tremendously to put it into code. It forced me to grasp the mathematical principles behind it, and to translate it into a usable web interface.

About

I started developing web-based tools for myself (bandwidth, color conversion) and decided to put them on their own domain in 2015.
