April 13, 2020 First Paying Customers

After way too much coding, we finally launch our paid product and soft launch it to our free newsletter readers. At first no one signed up and we were worried it was a flop. But after a few hours we started seeing notifications in our slack that people were signing up!

January 21, 2020 We launched on hacker news!

We are currently doing our Show HN post. It seems like a slow day on HN, but I'm hoping to a few people chime and give some feedback on the site. Looking forward to chatting with a few folks and just getting the general reaction to the launch.

January 17, 2020 We're on the front page of Wallstreetbets

I shared some of the free info from our newsletter as a reddit post and it got upvoted to the top of Wallstreetbets. It's tough because I'm not allowed to self promote. (waiting on mod approval), but it seems like the community finds the content useful.

January 8, 2020 We got our first 150 readers

I sent out an email saying goodbye and thank you to my last newsletter (oppsdaily) and let them know about the new project. I then fortuitously saw someone writing about something similar to oppsdaily on Hacker News and gave a short postmortem along with the link to TopStonks

January 3, 2020 Finished MVP

Wrote the software and set up the email over the holiday break. I had a few calls with my cofounder and it was fun (stressful?) trying to hit deadlines around a busy holiday. The project was in two parts, a platform to look for stock mentions and a newsletter via mailchimp.

December 2019 Concept gets written on a napkin

Well in this case it was written on a receipt over lunch with my cofounder. The food was great and lunch turned into a 2 hour ordeal trying to figure out how to get the concept to work. Eventually we came up with a plan, but we knew it would be tough to get everything done around the holidays!
