Totem Finance
A privacy-first personal finance app.
Hey everyone! 👋
I’m a solo developer, and I just launched my latest project: Totem Finance.
The Problem: Almost every personal finance app nowadays wants to connect to your bank accounts, sync everything to the cloud, and harvest your financial data. I just wanted a simple, powerful tool to track my expenses and manage my debt without trading my privacy.
The Solution: I built Totem Finance. It’s a 100% offline, privacy-first personal finance app. All your data stays strictly local on your device. No bank connections, no cloud tracking, no BS.
Core features I’ve built so far:
📊 Fast and intuitive expense & income tracking.
⛄ Built-in Snowball Method calculator to help users crush debt faster.
📈 Mortgage simulators and net worth tracking.
🔐 Absolute privacy.
The landing page is built with Astro + Firebase, and the app is currently available on Android.
Since I'm doing this solo, I would love to get some honest feedback from this community. Does the landing page clearly communicate the "privacy-first" value proposition? Any feedback on the UI or the concept would be hugely appreciated!
You can check it out here: https://totemfinance.web.app/
Thanks for reading, and keep building! 🚀
About
I was tired of finance apps asking for my bank passwords and selling my data, so I built Totem Finance. It's 100% offline, private, and free. I'd love for you to try it.

This concept is incredibly smart, mate. People are completely fed up with financial apps harvesting their data and demanding banking passwords, so a 100% offline, local-only alternative is a massive angle. Plus, baking the Snowball Method directly into a privacy-first tracker gives users a massive psychological win.
I looked over your Astro landing page and checked your listing on the Play Store. You've got a great product, but you're facing the classic indie launch wall: you're sitting at single-digit downloads and 0 user reviews.
Here's the bottleneck: with finance and debt management apps, the "trust gap" is incredibly high. Even if someone finds your landing page organically, seeing zero store reviews or algorithmic traction makes them hesitant to download an app meant to handle their sensitive net worth data—even if it is local.
Because you are doing this solo, relying on standard traffic loops will be too slow to get your momentum moving. I actually specialize in setting up tailored app promotion funnels and early review acquisition loops specifically to help indie developers break past this zero-traction phase.
I’m going to send a direct note to your developer email/contact page with a 2-step blueprint on how we can bridge this trust gap and safely scale Totem’s early downloads this month if you're open to taking a look!
Thanks for the deep dive, mate! I really appreciate you taking the time to check out the Astro landing page and the Play Store listing.
You completely hit the nail on the head regarding the "trust gap". It’s the ultimate paradox of building a privacy-first finance app: I made it local-only so people could completely trust that their data is safe, but because it’s a new indie launch with low downloads and 0 reviews, users are naturally hesitant to trust the app itself.
To be honest, this whole project started because of my own frustration. I was a hardcore Excel user for years, manually tracking my net worth and budgeting because I refused to give my banking passwords or financial history to cloud-based apps that profile users for profit. But doing everything manually in a spreadsheet became tedious. I wanted a modern mobile experience, but with the bulletproof privacy of my local Excel file.
So, I built Totem Finance for myself. Once I saw how much it helped me streamline my finances and keep track of my goals, I decided to polish it and upload it to help other people who share that exact same frustration.
You are 100% right that breaking past this zero-traction phase is the toughest wall for a solo developer. I just saw your email in my inbox and I’m definitely open to checking out your 2-step blueprint. Building that initial social proof and showing people they can trust Totem is exactly what I need to figure out right now.
Thanks again for the feedback, let’s keep in touch! 🚀
