75 signed up free trial users 🤯

My mind has been blown. My Facebook ad which I worked very hard on pre-launch went live last night and this morning / afternoon I've woke up to +73 sign ups for free trial on my product https://trackmylift.app.

No paying customers yet obviously because there's a trial period of 7 days but even the fact that this amount of people have even taken interest is absolutely delightful.

I'm very happy so far and I'm planning out my Product Hunt launch for late this week / start of next week.

I've also built up a backlog of enhancements to the product to roll out over the next while.

Going from strength to strength so this is very exciting.

This is great, Alan! I'll share :)

Any tips for running a successful Facebook ad? Also, how much money did you invest for the ad? Thanks for the time! Going to check out the app! :)

    1. 1

And also for this first ad

      £15 total. I've used £8.37 now.

      141 signups / 4 paying customers

Awesome; thanks for checking it out!

My advice is take time, don't rush this as it could go completely wrong and suck lots of money.

Be sure to target correctly using demographics and interests.

Narrow your audience using the advanced options and set a purchase behaviour of engaged shopper (this is someone who has clicked on an ad or bought something from an ad before) - why this one? In 2 ads side by side , one without the purchase behaviour. You'll maybe reach 10k more people on the ad without the narrowing but those 10k maybe have no intention a all of even buying your product.

Whereas the narrowing ensures that your as it falling into the hands of people who are actually seriously thinking of converting.

Pair this with a perfect audience through step 1 of interest and demographic / even job and income if you need to and then you are off to a winner.

      Be very specific with the interests - find out related interests to your niche and topic aswell which directly correlate to it, for example;

      Gym
      Fitness
      Bodybuilding
      ...
Ronnie Coleman (Facebook page) - like
      Gold's gym Facebook page
      Planet fitness - Facebook page
      Bench press
      Men's health
      Gym shark

This way , not only are ou targeting people who are interested in the gym, fitness,. Bodybuilding etc, but you're going that step further and including topics and interests that will CONFIRM this , for example specific people who are big in the gym scene, big brands that you'd only know about if you were "into it",

Let me know how you get on. Drop me a message on Twitter if you need to and I can help out 😊

Thanks so much for the detailed response!

Anytime! If you want to, connect on twitter and we can share any knowledge together!

  3. 2

Thanks for sharing. Your results are great + it shows me how well ads work when you've done a good job with audience targeting.

    1. 1

No problem at all! I love sharing my results! And I will continue to do so 👏🏻

  4. 2

Hopefully it's not a bunch of bots.

Another user had a large bot sign-up problem during their free trial earlier last week.

    1. 1

Haha it's definitely not bots as the users are active, they've logged in, added workouts etc. I've now got 120+ signups and there's 300+ recorded workouts.

      1. 2

        That's awesome! Congrats.

  5. 2

That's so awesome to hear Alan! Congrats. I've been reading your past updates to get an idea of how to go public with my project and they've been very helpful!

Nice to see how flexible you are with testing out pricing from the start. I see great success ahead!

    1. 2

Thank you so much! That's really promising to hear that I'm helping fellow indie hackers aswell! 💪🏻😁 Any thing I can help with I would be happy to give my 2 cents!

  6. 2

Can you share your personal record for the lifts as well? For example: squat 240kg

    1. 1

Hey @LouisHelios yes that's on my list for recording and viewing your exercise personal bests. Then naturally the share function will tie into that!! 😎

      1. 2

Nice! It can be serve as community building function as well.

  7. 2

Nice! It'll be interesting to see it gain traction and paying users.

    1. 2

I've literally just got a paying customer! NEW POST going up! I'm in shock lol

  8. 2

Will you in the future switch to recurring revenue or it will forever be lifetime access?

    1. 1

I will definitely like to see how the lifetime access pans out in terms of if it's feasible to continue it like this as it's more appealing to a customer to pay a one off fee. But the flip side, obviously I'd love a MRR. It's in my plan to potentially try other pricing options down the line for future customers.

  9. 2

I love your landing page, you did a great job!

Be careful with FB ads, especially when it comes to targeting. It’s easy to get cheap users from third world countries that will never upgrade to paid plans.

    1. 1

I appreciate that a lot! Thank you. Yeah I get what you mean. I have a strong target audience and it's targeted correctly but I totally understand. I'll see how it pans out over the next week and if I need to i'll re-jig things. Very excited to release on ProductHunt though.

      1. 2

Keep also in mind that it’s very difficult to profitably acquire new customers if your LTV is less than $20-$25 minimum. Something to keep in mind when you plan your pricing.

        1. 1

Completely understandable. Over the course of my 8 month journey on this project I've been putting funds away per month, £100-£150 a month to create a pool of money to use on Ads, anything else i feel i need so I have some "free cash" at the moment to play around with and find the right balance, which i'm glad I did now.

  10. 2

    Brilliant, keep it up, Alan

    1. 1

Thank you so much!! I'm so excited to see a paid user haha I think i will go mad

      1. 2

        Hahaha

When it happens, make sure you let us know on IndieHackers!

        1. 2

I definitely will - I will shout it from the rooftops while holding an ice cold pint to celebrate 🤣

I originally had it set as a free, standard and unlimited plan . But i deliberately took the decision to remove the free plan. I think with a free plan, you would have most of the "barebones" of the app which you would need so there would be no real incentive to pay. But something to take onboard for the future

Thank you so much I appreciate it!

      Ofcourse,

      1. My ad has been running for around 16 hours now. I've spent £3.47, with one paying customer already of £15. My limit on this specific ad is £15. So i've already broke even.
      2. It's a Web App, adding to homescreen it'll perform just like a native app.
      1. 2

I would love to hear more about this! Where did you learn how to optimize your ads? It would love to be pointed in the direction of any helpful resources that you used to inform your current campaign. 75 signups for only £3.47 is INCREDIBLE! Teach me your ways. ;)

        1. 1

I used online tutorials and took a udemy course on Facebook advertising. I've also been playing around with ads for my partner's business over the last 6months aswell and at the start she threw money into it so in a way that was good practice as well! Give me a shout on twitter if you need anything!

          1. 2

Brilliant! Thank you! I will certainly add you on Twitter. I look forward to seeing your growth continue! Onward.

            1. 1

Definitely do! I'm happy to help out anytime where I can, I'd be glad to offer any advice 😊😊👏🏻

Thank you so much! Really appreciate that! I'm surprised I kept to my schedule, but i kept things tight and if i lost time on X day i made it up on Y day. Which was a nice structure. It feels great!!

Thank you! I will most definitely be sharing everything here!
