We're got plenty of experience in app development and system engineering, so we're in a position to be able to produce an idea from scratch.
Obviously, we're standing on the shoulders of giants here. JavaScript is probably the most essential language in play here, although C++ & the Bourne Again Shell deserve honourable mentions.

We got out there on the Internet, found people who might be interested in TradePath.app and started telling them about it.
We learned to talk, and to do so more often and more widely to more people. We expected to be told 'Hey ! Stop astroturfing !' but instead we got likes and follows.
It seems that people don't mind being told about something that helps them move towards a goal they have.
Welcoming new visitors to a site is not easy. On one hand, you want them to engage with your product and leave a nice clear trail through the funnel to the buy button. On the other hand you want them to enjoy the fruits of your labours.
Why not both ?
Rather than having people 'sign up' or 'register now' (neither of which sound particularly like things I'd want to do on a site I've never been to before) we decided to just let people use the app.
Well, not all of the app. Enough to get an idea what it does.

We got to attend the Enterprise Ireland StartUp Showcase at Croke Park in Dublin last week, where one of the founders of teamwork.com showed how SaaS can be "a long slow ramp of death" when it comes to building revenue.
