Tribyst

Marketplace for unique experiences

A lady I met through the Indie Hacker's meetup that myself and a few others host in Cape Town hosted a sunset sailing experience on Tribyst!

The price for the experience was $10 per guest, and a group of 5 people, myself included went!

It was super awesome! Learnt quite a bit about boats and how to operate them at the very basic level! What's more amazing is that she's been hosting experiences on AirBnb, and had a lot of great feedback we could use to improve our site.

The site is so far from perfect, but I strongly advocate for shipping imperfect products!

Airbnb experiences is getting too crowded.

An advantage over them would be curation.

All the ratings are inflated because everyone knows a bad rating will get you removed from the system, so in order to know if it’s a good experience you need to spend more time and effort looking through reviews.

It will be a tough market to crack as you need testimonials for every experience.

Hammer on nail @sobbuh! Reviews is something we're really thinking hard about, we haven't got to the ideal answer yet, but for the MVP, we're happy at text reviews. While AirBnb is headed more for 'things to do', we're hoping to build a community where everyone can do cool things together and become more strongly acquainted - like a tribe. Hence Tribyst!

Congratulations! Site looks good too, nice clean layout.

What are your plans for differentiating Tribyst from AirBnb experiences?

Thanks @Bagodonuts! While AirBnb primarily targets travelers (a symptom of their primary offering), they're offering to locals is not as strong. We're building for locals first!

I came to the realization that what I did every weekend or got invited for got too predictable and repetitive, and I believe a lot of people feel this pain too.

The unique experiences market is still geared towards tourists in many parts of the world, and is often too expensive for locals.I'm hoping to change this around.

I really like this idea and can see it taking off. I feel like customer reviews on the website would really help with gaining credibility for this kind of product(chicken and egg problem I know).
    Good luck!

Thanks @oli_typified! You just inspired me to start building in the review system!

I am sure you wanted to say "I came to the realization..." and not "...retaliation" :) I suppose it could be attributed to auto-correct but wanted to let you know anyway!

Hehe thank you! Yup autocorrect got the better of me!

It's a great take on the experiences market. I use Facebook events but it's a pain...
Since you want to fight repetitiveness, do you have some kind of "I feel lucky" functionality?

Interesting, I use meetup when I'm desperate, but nothing usually excites me too much. On you end, how often do you find experiences that wow you on Facebook?

      1. 1

Not much, but I only use it when I really don't know what to do/out of ideas

I'm building a unique experiences app because what I did every weekend or got invited for got too predictable and repetitive, and I believe a lot of people feel so too.
