December 31, 2020 The Idea for TripMix

My girlfriend and I really enjoy good food and travel. We spend a lot of our time cooking, eating, and going to breweries and wineries. We have a few favorite cities near us, like Charlottesville, VA and the surrounding wine country in Virginia, and Portland, Maine. We've been there with enough frequency that we've developed a sort of reputation as the go-to experts for those areas, and receive frequent requests for our recommendations. We have sent a long e-mail to our close friends a dozen times for each location.

Sometimes the friend requesting recommendations doesn't drink alcohol, so we have to go through and scrub out all of the breweries and wineries from our email. Sometimes they're gluten free, so all of the pizza and bagels we love get cut. After doing this several times, we realized it would be much simpler to have something purpose-built for storing and exporting this type of information.

We take inspiration from Canva, Facebook Recommendations, and knowledge bases. Features will include: filterable lists, creation of itineraries, notes about each Place, along with Google Places and Maps integration. Finally, you'll be able to quickly create a "guide" and export it to an aesthetically pleasing page that you can share with your friends.

You'll be able to tag places with "winery" or "vegetarian", and when you're building your guide for your friends, you can filter on those tags easily. You could just click the "winery" tag to instantly create a "Charlottesville Wine Guide".

Later versions will be more of a fully fledged travel-focused social network for sharing recommendations with your friends.

Google Sheets just wasn't cutting it! So many of my close friends have asked for recommendations to places I've been, I decided to build a knowledge-base and travel guide builder with export features and good aesthetics.
