June 17, 2020 A wild namesake appears!

On June 17th, a new mobile game was launched globally to the App Store and Google Play Store: Trivia Royale.

At first I was extremely confused how my analytics have suddenly spiked 80X overnight but I plan to make the most out of this. Apparently TriviaRoyale ranks highly on search engines for related search terms and the game has found appreciation with new players and visitors.

Let's hope this fantastic coincidence won't cast a dark cloud over me....

April 18, 2020 New name!

I have decided that this project deserves its own domain name and it now lives at triviaroyale.io!

While I was at it the game received a bunch of updates:

  • Dark mode!

  • Vastly better and intuitive design! I had a lot of visitors who would join, start a round and never try to answer a question at all.

  • Some Q.O.L. updates that were long needed, e.g. closing modals with Escape or a button to get a random player name.

January 14, 2019 Good bye Google Analytics

The privacy of my trivia players is important to me.

That's why I finally removed all remaining Google Analytics code and all remaining tracking is done via a self-hosted Matomo (Piwik) instance which honors your Do-not-track setting by default as well.

I am using Simple Analytics on my product UpStamps. Very simple to use with a great mission on privacy.

May 24, 2017 New Async Syntax

Python introduced their new async / await keyword syntax. The codebase was subsequently ported during a quiet hour at PyCon US 2017 in Portland, OR. :)

March 19, 2015 Motivation

Ever since I first logged on to IRC, trivia game channels were my thing. This game is a replication of IRC-style trivia, with all users seeing the same questions, and the quickest user gets all the points!

So why did I create this game? Primarily, as an excercise in asynchronous programming. I wanted to create something using fancy new technology like WebSockets!
