Tube Hunt
Discover quality YouTube channels
After 10 days of work, we have successfully created the very first beta version of our Chrome extension.
There isn't any registration process needed, it simply shows a bunch of user submitted channels and allow you to "clap" on them.
It is the most minimal MVP to validate the idea. We have other features lined up for the next iteration that make for a better experience overall.
Current features include:
- Submitting channel via the extension's popup
- Injecting submitted channels on your YouTube homepage
- Display description and keywords of the channel
- Clap unlimited times for a channel
Future features to add:
- User signup and authentication
- Clap currency(limited number of clap per day)
- Filtration through keywords
- A button for showing channel's videos right on YouTube homepage
Please feel free to check out the extension here! ANY feedback is very much appreciated.

Instead of trying to build a site right off the bat, I created a subreddit instead where I ask people to submit channels and also discover new ones. These channels that are voted highly will be featured on the weekly newsletter which is lagging behind with only 17 subscribers.
Feel free to check out the sub

I'm not actually sure of the right way to develop one. I just figured it out from reading the source code of extensions I've used before, most are on Github. e.g. https://github.com/vinitshahdeo/Cookie-Manager
You can test it during develop using this page in chrome:

Well there was a opportune question about where people find YouTube channels given YouTube recommendations suck. So I answered there, stated my solution and got like 60 upvotes for it. Within a day it got up to 93 now.

Well, all product should start with a MVP. Tube Hunt’s MVP is a simple Substack newsletter that allows subscribers to receive YouTube channels recommendations weekly. It aims to validate whether people want to subscribe to a more diverse range of channels given the quality of the channel is guaranteed. It is certainly a pain point for me to discover YouTube channels and I hope others face the same.
Roadmap after the newsletter is:
- Gain an audience with weekly newsletter
- Create Tube Hunt sites with more sophisticated features and better SEO
- Build a better recommender engine
- Create Chrome extension that allows users to import their list of subscriptions and injects better video recommendations to enrich their YouTube experience.

YouTube recommendation algorithm renders the experience vexing. Issues range from irrelevant content to getting us addicted to the platform to creating echo chambers that reinforce our biases.
