November 28, 2019 Organize your web discoveries like Marie Kondo

You can now organize and categorize your discoveries on https://turtle.community. Adding topics is so easy now that you want to categorize everything.

We started by categorizing the discoveries posted on Turtle by hand ("Do things that don't scale"). But it quickly grew out of hand. Now everybody can categorize their discoveries by himself and we have less work to do :)

November 25, 2019 Search bar now on Turtle

In the recent weeks we got some feedback of users who would like to have some search functionality in Turtle. They felt that it was hard to share all the interesting stuff with others, because it was a lot of effort to find older posts on Turtle.

From now on you can easily use our search bar to find posts either by title, url, topic or just search for the user who created it.

November 21, 2019 Turtle now has In-App Notifications

Every form of network has notifications to let their users know how other users of the network reacted to their contributions. This is really important so that users have the feeling to be part of a real community.

From now on you get notified, when

  • a user comments on a link you shared
  • a user replies to your comment
  • a user saves your weblink to his/her library
  • a user follows you

Hi there, curious to know if you would have been open to using a third party tool to add in-app notifications to your product. Is that something you would be interested in, or was adding notifications easy enough for you to do on your own? Thanks!

October 21, 2019 Break through 100 users

Finally, after a long haul and multiple pivots, our first product broke through 100 users.

The two main factors to achieve this were the following:

  • Increase the time used on marketing vs product development (the time spend on marketing should be roughly equal to the time spend on product development)
  • Improve positioning and copywriting on the landing page iteratively

October 12, 2019 Launch on Betalist

Today, we launched on Betalist: https://betalist.com/startups/turtle.

Unfortunately , Turtle was published with the "old" positioning, which was too abstract and general. But we still got many signups.

Next steps include to get as much feedback as possible by the registered users to improve Turtle gradually and increase the number of active users.

October 10, 2019 Added topics

We included topics so that tools shared on Turtle can now be categorized into different topics like webdev, design, landing page, analytics and much more. You can follow these topics and discover interesting content shared by other users. This gets us one step closer to create a vibrant community around useful tools found on the web.

October 2, 2019 Specified target group and clarified positioning

Our experience was that positioning was much too broad. Too many people couldn't grasp the essential message from our UVP and copywriting.

We did some analysis and interviews and did come to the conclusion that focusing on dev and startup tools is a much better fit.

All this was leading to the following outcome: https://turtle.community

September 25, 2019 Repositioning & Redesign of Landing Page

We were not quite satisfied with the design on our landing page. Furthermore, we noticed that the positioning we used does not fit to our product anymore, so we changed it.

  • Do you like the idea?
  • Do you have any recommendations concerning design or positioning?

September 19, 2019 Fresh landing page redesign

Our first landing page was not well received, so we did a complete redesign: https://turtle.community

  • Do you understand the problems we want to solve with Turtle?
  • Can you relate with these problems?
  • In general, how do you like the design and copy writing?
  • Where can we improve?

September 10, 2019 Launch of first public MVP

We were unhappy with how web links are shared via messenger or social media because they don't offer appropriate capabilities for managing these links.

We coded all day (and night) to finish this first iteration of a public MVP. We focused on performance as well as a clear UX and UI design.

We are thinking about the next features but are not quite sure in which direction to go. What are you missing? What do you like/dislike?

I think you're missing the problem you're solving. When I scanned your site, I saw the things I COULD do with your app, but I still don't know WHY I need it.

Maybe add a section into your landing page stating the problem that your service fixes.

Thanks for your valuable feedback! Yes, I agree that our 'unhappiness with current solutions' should be more clearly stated out on the landing page.

Most of the people we interviewed are sharing links via messenger or on social media but weren't able to keep track of them. And then they have to do workarounds like copy and paste the link in a notes app to remember this interesting article without being lost on an endless timeline or infinite chat history.

I'd be interested if the outputted links create and RSS feed.

Unfortunately, a RSS feed is currently not in the planning, but I will tell you if that should change.

As a RSS noob, can you enlighten me about how you use RSS feeds? It is possible to subscribe to specific topics, people and feeds?! Which client can you recommend to access RSS feeds?
