Twig
Journal for Couples
Yesterday was a huge day for Twig. I finally released a premium version of my existing free app. It provides a couple extra features (currently not even released yet) and unlimited photo upload.
I set the monthly rate at $3 and a lifetime upgrade at $35.
When I released the pro version I also decided to send an email to all current users informing them of the release and other upcoming features.
Anyway, within a few hours two people had purchased the lifetime version.
This is my first product and it's amazing to see that it has finally brought in some cash.
Twig has been steadily growing each and every day. Although the growth rate hasn't increased much over time, I'm happy to see that I'm retaining so many of the couples that try it.
As a reminder, Twig is a shared journal for couples.
In case you're wondering what that 400 MAU equates to in MRR... the answer is $0.
That's next on the to-do list. Currently baking up a premium package.

Two months after Twig's debut on my girlfriend's phone, it was ready for public use... barely. It was still quite the MVP, but a good friend of mine talked me into launching it instead of perfecting it.
He made a good call. It was ready for basic and use.

On my girlfriend's birthday (and without a moment to spare) I completed the MVP. I had pre-populated the journal with some of our greatest memories and she fell in love with the idea. Her roommate even asked when it might be available for others to use.
It sounded like I might be on to something.

My girlfriend's birthday is at the end of February, and I was racking my brain for cute ideas for a gift.
Then it hit me.
I could make the shared journal from our discussion into a reality! Not only that, but I could go beyond our idea and actually solve the "dual participation" problem that initially made me dislike the idea.
The solution would be an app that made it easy to co-author a shared scrapbook.

In January, my girlfriend and I had a random "what if" discussion about the perfect gift for a couple. We jointly decided that a shared journal had to be the sweetest thing one could make together.
A shared journal would allow two people to scrapbook together.
I noted that it'd be difficult to get even participation from both members of a couple for a shared, printed scrapbook like this, but I filed away the idea anyway.

Both my girlfriend Kassidy and I have gifted each other various forms of scrapbooks. While that definitely has its place, we wanted something that could be used any time something special happened. So I set out to make t

Hey Trent, do you have an idea of who your premium audience is? Where might your paid audience differ from your free users?
Great question. I don’t have the data to back this up, but I believe my users are split between young, long distance couples, and actual in-person married couples.
From my conversations with a couple dozen people, it seems as though the adult, married folks are the buyers.
Interesting, yeah I think you should trust your gut!
